Cary Williams eagles career remembered

good , they'll let fletcher walk this weekend as he becomes a FA, need to redo the entire secondary, maybe draft one and sign another corner. eagles have a lot of needs, giving up everything for a top 6 draft pick is not wise. stay with Foles for now.

draft one in the first rd, sign one in FA. so adding two pieces would be a start for 2015. they have a few guys still on the team that can fill a need but not be the starters. still a few years away from actually competing for the NFC title. need to start with the defense.

Two starters in FA and one in the draft IMO is how they will do it. Next week should be real interesting.

Ray Didinger has been talking about moving Nolan Carrol out to Safety alongside Jenkins. He was pressed into some LB towards the end of the year so not sure how that would translate to playing S.

bmoney - any thoughts on this? Did he ever line up as a S with Miami?

Besides that, you have to sign Maxwell and then try and move up to draft Trae Waynes who looks like he is the best corner in the draft.

Waynes is the best in the draft. The problem is that he will almost certainly go in the top 10 which will cost a lot to move up. You can get a good one at 20 since this draft has at least four first round quality corners.

Maxwell is who you want in FA and don't stop there. You must get a minimum of two starters on defense and if you do that and be real aggressive, then you can trade up and sacrifice picks to get the player you want on draft day. The Eagles certainly have the money to attack free agency.

he never played safety as far as I can recall, no.

I like Waynes but I'm not sure I'd take him high (he will go high for sure though). from what I have seen, he is too hands-y.

that isn't true at all.

What? That he will go in the top 10? Before the combine, I did not think so. But, he seems to be in the top 10 in a lot of mocks.

The Eagles aren't taking a DB in the 1st round because they are trading up to get their QB. They are clearing a ton of cap space to address needs in FA that won't be able to be taken care of in the draft. Probably because they are trading multiple picks to get QB. Just a hunch....

I could see this happening too.

I think there would definitely be some outrage by the faux fans if they trade up into the top 10 only to draft a DB. But realistically, trading from 20 to 10 is much more doable than 20 to top 5.

Burrs, I agree with this. I said a month ago that the only way you move up to get Mariotta is if the Eagles attack free agency and get a minimum of two starters (prefer three) on defense. Then you do not have to worry about giving up a one and two this year and a next year's one because you already addressed critical positions on defense.

I would be fine if Kelly does this.

I am very interested to see what happens with Maclin. You almost have no choice but to resign him since the depth at WR is pretty terrible. I like him a lot, he had a great year - but he is not a Dez Bryant, Calvin Johnson, Demariyus Thomas, or Antonio Brown. He put up big numbers but I see him more as one of the best #2 WR's in the NFL.

Besides the guys that were tagged (Bryant and Thomas) the next best available WR would be Randall Cobb who is almost a clone of Maclin. I would take Maclin over Cobb (would love to see them re-sign Maclin and the go after Cobb but that wouldn't be the best allocation of $$). Crabtree is an interesting name, but he doesn't seem to fit Kelly's mold of player.

WR might be something they target in the draft, but right now I see no way around re-signing Maclin.

This. It would not surprise me that something is already either in place or close to it and that is why they did not think about franchising him. You need to sign him and I expect them to sign Maclin.

BTW, I also wish they would target a second receiver as well. You cannot or should not go into next season with that lack of production from your #2 receiver.

sounds like everyone is aware that the Eagles have more needs than a top 5 QB. no reason why kelly should do this. but then again kelly doesnt care, he gets his QB and goes from there. he'll either win or be fired based on that move but it will take 5 years for that to happen and he can go find a job in college making 5M per. if he leaves the franchise in shambles whats that to him. this is the reason why Lurie is not an elite owner like Kraft.

If the plan is to get Mariotta they'd better sign 2 corners in FA. Maxwell and a guy like Brandon Flowers perhaps. Unless they are comfortable just adding Maxwell and rotating Carroll, Boykin, Jaylen Watkins in with a guy they draft in the mid-rds.

Give Lurie Tom Brady for a decade+ and I'm pretty sure he have a SB trophy in his office.

You're right, though. Chip is just playing fantasy football because he has nothing to lose. College will always be there. Yea, he doesn't have pride and isn't competitive. Has no interest in building the best possible team that he can. Really doesn't believe in himself and has no interest in winning.

Reports coming out that Trent Cole is next to go.

burrs: A little surprised because Cole already said he would take less money to stay. I guess they may just want to move on. If that happens, they had better get an edge pass rusher and make it a high priority just next to corner. I don't expect them to give Graham what he will get in FA.

Donvan McNabb was plenty good enough at QB to win a SB. You really dont need Tom Brady.

No, but it sure does help. After all, he is the best ever!

McNabb was a good QB, but not good enough. Brady is great and can make up for shortcomings in other areas. If Brady is the QB for those four Eagles' teams that made 4 NFC title games, then I'm fairly confident that they have at least one title.

Again, not blaming McNabb, but him being good had a ceiling and it was much lower than Brady's.

the not winning a super bowl was on the coach and players, losing to TB and Carolina was a joke. AT HOME.
