Father Dobbin Remembered

Anyone know what happened? I hadn't heard that he was sick.

Obituaries that don't mention the cause of death always leave me wanting more.

Wrong. NYTimes obits always mention the cause of death, if only briefly. Sorry that you only read obits for Aunt Mildred in some local fourth tier CoP rag. The top 3 on today's page:

----

Daniel Von Bargen, a character actor who played both bumbling and menacing authority figures and was probably best known as George Costanza's thickheaded boss on "Seinfeld," died on Sunday in Cincinnati. He was 64.
His death was confirmed by Harry Gilligan, the owner of Gilligan Funeral Homes, without specifying the cause. Mr. Von Bargen had been treated for diabetes for years and had undergone a leg amputation.
---

Dean Hess, a flying preacher who unwittingly bombed a German orphanage during World War II and six years later helped rescue hundreds of Korean foundlings endangered by Communist troops converging on Seoul, died on Monday at his home in Huber Heights, Ohio, near Dayton. He was 97.
His death, after a short illness, was confirmed by his son Lawrence.
---

Lawrence R. Scanlon Jr., a behind-the-scenes power in organized labor whose fund-raising elevated the political profile of public employee unions, but who had mixed results in fending off recent efforts by Republican governors to limit unions' bargaining rights, was killed on Feb. 27 in a car accident near Beaufort, S.C. He was 65.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after a car had apparently failed to yield and hit the sport utility vehicle Mr. Scanlon was driving, Lt. Kelley Hughes, a spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said. Mr. Scanlon's wife, Margaret, who was in the vehicle, survived.

Wait.

Chief Grady is remembered?

Also God Bless Fr. Dobbin. He was a good man.

Update. The obit on Philly.com says that he had cancer. I guess this is why it pays to be a pay board insider.
