Mel apparently tendered his resignation from the Inquirer a few days before the final four. I believe they didn't pay for his trip to the final four last year and I think the handwriting was on the wall. Most of the major dailys across the country have been cutting staff left and right and women's sports are pretty near the bottom of the totem pole.
The Inquirer only ran the AP wire stories on the final four. The two Dallas papers did the same thing even though they were only a few hours away. Sad, but the print media is fast becoming a dinosaur.
Mel's blog will continue and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get picked up by one of the major onlines (ESPN.com, etc.). A true "guru", Mel's print articles in the Inky will be missed and the women's BB game will have one less outlet to reach the masses.
