I almost think that ND would have been better off down 1 point with 34 sec. to go, than being tied. It would have forced them to foul early, and forced KY to make free throws. Given that KY was at times unstoppable underneath, and would probably get fouled (as they were) with minimal time left, Extending the game until you can get a lead seems better than letting them control the end of the game.
Also, If I were Brey, I would have tried to keep that last timeout. With 34 seconds it was pretty obvious that they would run the clock down and try to get something in the paint.
