I always enjoy the follow ups to benchwarmers consumer reports.
You seem like a Ford explorer kind of guy.

I tested some out and wanted to punch every sales person that I spoke to. I'll probably just plow a grand into getting my current car patched up and put it off for another year.
I do like Explorers and it would probably be the only American model I would look at. I think that they're updating the look for next year though.

Not if my wife murders me while trying to pack a small SUV for a 5 hour drive with two kids and all the associated accoutrements.Smart move
Always a smart move to wait for a new model. Although if it's only a minor styling refresh, you can usually score a great deal on an old model that a dealer is trying to move off of his lot. A lot of times there's not a new engine or running gear in these "new models," so the old ones can be a deal.
If you don't want to deal with salespeople, just get something used off of ebay or craigslist. Nothing bad ever happened by dealing with people from these websites.
Car salesman are the worst. I have never tried CarSense but a couple of my friends have and they said its a significantly better experience than going to a dealership. Have you considered checking them out?I don't want to deal with salespeople (got roughly 800 voicemails and emails from them asking me how it's going, yet not offering a single reason to talk to them - maybe mention a great price or incentive) yet I have to because I will probably lease due to my low mileage driving and need for a bigger car than I want to schedule bigger loan payments for.
I'm not too hot on Fords this month - had to replace the A/C compressor on our other one at 65k miles. Never had anything like that in 17 years of driving foreign cars.
Their prices look ridiculous. Like walking into a dealer and paying sticker price.Car salesman are the worst. I have never tried CarSense but a couple of my friends have and they said its a significantly better experience than going to a dealership. Have you considered checking them out?
Just constantly upselling when you already told them that you don't want that bullsh*t. I had one guy push me me towards a completely different model obviously because they were lower demand and they had a hundred of those in inventory vs. the model I wanted that sells as soon as it hits the lot. What do car salesmen do that pisses you off? I happen to be working on a project right now that involves car dealerships, been pretty frustrating because it's a lot harder to sell them.
I tried car sense when I was looking for a car right out of college. The salesman basically told me that my parents needed to cosign the lease before I even had a chance to look at a car and or let them know I had plenty of cash to make a down payment on the car. Thanks for giving me a chance, jagoff.Car salesman are the worst. I also take issue that they don't openly talk pricing as if they are selling rare artwork instead of a commodity. I have to have clandestine email conversations with everyone pitting dealers against each other in order to get a fair price. That's f*cking stupid and a pain in the ass.
Waiters at all you can eat buffets are essentially lifeguards. You need someone to make sure JMerc doesn't choke on his 3rd helping of mozzarella sticks.Seriously. What does a car salesman do for the customer? They're like waiters at all you can eat buffets.
This reminds me of when I was in the process of buying a new car four years ago. I decided to go with a Fusion because I eventually got a pretty good deal but I wasn't completely sold yet. The color of the car was bordeaux and the salesman was acting like if you don't buy now, you may never have a chance at this car again. That was annoying and I told the guy that I'm not buying some rare sports car here, it's a cookie cutter car and I don't give a damn about the color. I came back like three days later and there it still was.Just constantly upselling when you already told them that you don't want that bullsh*t. That's what I'm talking about. Maybe if I'm some dipshit you can create a fake sense of urgency in my life, but chances are theres a thousand of this model rolling off the assembly line every day. This reminds me of when I was in the process of buying a new car four years ago. Why?Dude, don't buy the base model of any car, let alone a plain Jane SUV that is the staple of rental fleets everywhere.
Resale will be much harder. You'd rather buy a brand new base model with cloth seats than a 2 year old low mileage beautifully maintained version of the same car, for less money? Why?
Resale? For the car that I'm going to lease? That's the dealer's problem and will be reflected in the residual value.Resale will be much harder. You'd rather buy a brand new base model with cloth seats than a 2 year old low mileage beautifully maintained version of the same car, for less money?

Especially when he wore his Nazi Cross that Hitler gave to him.Henry Ford was an American hero. I doubt I will ever own any car other than a Ford (or part of the Ford group of brands).
