Going there for 2 weeks in May, anyone have any recommendations? Sex clubs, restaurants, best places to take a shit, day trips.

Haven't been to Vienna, but the other two are, of course, tremendous cities. Love Budapest in particular.

Recommend Menza (link below) for a casual bite, drink and people watching in Budapest. The "Terror Museum" is worth a visit if you're doing the tourist thing.

If at all possible, I'd consider mixing in a day or two in Bratislava, Slovakia. It's possible to get there by boat from Budapest.

Nardi, shoot me an email at chimpat@yahoo.com. My brother lived in Prague for two years and put together a pretty good email of some places to check out.

I visited him there and thought Prague was one of the most amazing cities I've been to. Vienna is beautiful as well but only got to spend a day there. Two weeks is a good amount of time to hit those three places, I did them in about a week and it was a little tight.

In Vienna, if you're into cemeteries, go visit the Zentralfriedhof. Anybody who is anyone is buried there---Beethoven, Brahms, Strauss, Schubert, Salieri, Boltzmann (for the physicists/mathematicians), Geli Raubal (for the historians) and, a favorite of BWers, Rudolf von "Alt". Falco is also spending eternity there. I think there is also a torture museum there as well.

As someone mentioned, also get to Bratislava. The most beautiful women I've ever seen.

I actually thought this was really interesting, Strick. Would recommend checking out.

Also, just outside of Budapest I went to Memento Park. Not sure if I'd recommend it or not...sort of interesting....but depends on your interests.

They've held onto lots and lots of Cold War-era statues and deposited them in one spot. I also recall a movie shown at the Park related to the secret police being pretty interesting.

See link.

Definitely go to Bratislava, because it's on the route from Prague to Budapest.

Prague is a great city to just meander around at night.

Budapest is by far the cheapest of the cities you mentioned, but it's also replete with petty thieves. Find something creative to do with your wallet when you're there.

make sure your credit card company mails you a chip card before leaving. Europe does not have a swiper they use a different system and you need a CC with a chip on it. thats very important.

also , keep your wallet in your front pocket. lots of pick pocketers in the tourist areas.

i spent a month in Amsterdam, Belgium and Germany.

Did a Danube trip back in 07 or 08. Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna & Prague. Great time. Bratislava is SMALL. There's a WWII memorial that's a bit of a hike but has a sick view of the entire city. Budapest had a fun - albeit going - outdoor bar/club right under a bridge on the Pest side. Can't recall the name. Vienna we were there for the Euro tournament so all our time was spent in the main squares watching games and hitting the bars after. Prague is a great time but navigating the streets was difficult - pre international smartphone so had to rely on standard maps. Got lost more than a few times. There is a great, cheep local beer garden that overlooks the city.

Wish I could remember more details around places we drank and partied. Bit of a blur.

Went to Budapest / Vienna last year. Good stuff in both towns.

Vienna - Went to the Princess Sissi museum...I scoffed at the original thought of it, but it ended up being very interesting. Also went to the back country and went to a monk monastery (can't remember where, no beer there either). Also, saw some ruins of where apparently King Richard was jailed, which was a pretty cool place, which was in Austrian wine country. Vienna was a great place to just walk around and get lost. 1516 Brewing Company was something near our hotel which had some good food.

Budapest - First of all, be very careful when on the subway...it's not overly difficult, but you must validate your pass before you get to the platform and the police feast on tourists and it's like a 100 dollar fine (like 25000 Fornit)

Lots of great touristy things like the castle on the Buda site, Hero's Plaza, and the Central Market. I would also STRONGLY recommend the Terror Museum (like RStrick said) as it's badass.

A great thing it eat is goulash soup, which is the traditional way to eat goulash. We ate at a few places, but my favorite was Szlovák Söröző. Great bar with really good food.

I think I am taking the train to all of these places, after I fly over there. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Train is fine. Might be worth looking into hydrofoil too though.

Nads--have you thought about visiting Lidice (just NW of Prague)?

Unfortunately, no. Location of one of the worst Nazi atrocities.

Is this a EuropeanDestinations jawn?

When I went in '13, Prague was much cheaper than Austria (on the Euro) and Hungary, on the Forint, but you need to take out those in the tens out thousands at the ATM. I'd imagine the kourna (Czech), Euro, and Forint have performed similarly over the past year -- not a bad time to go abroad.

Hope to live in Vienna for about a year one day. Maybe do 6 months there and in Innsbruck. That would be nice

If it involves getting my d*ck wet, then yes.
