Thanks for posting and good timing considering the politicians including the PA gov. are once again pushing for a regional school tax. Phila already spends $4,000 more per student compared to the suburbs but that doesn't seem to be enough.

Don't most of these budget increases go to paying out pensions and not actually improving the schools?

They also go to pay for the insane security needs of the schools. Diane Sawyer did something on Strawberry Mansion HS a couple years ago. Based on the report, I would rather have my kid spend four years in Graterford.

An uneducated populous is a key component in ensuring the continued power of the political class.

the world needs ditch diggers too.

why not make these trade schools, teach the kids a trade. its not like they are gonna use that algebra later in life. or are they still on Remedial Math III Sr year?

I was astonished when I was a high school substitute teacher how stupid some of the kids were. I had kids who couldn't even add. So I agree with you. Teach them a trade. At least that way they have reasonable chance to have a decent life.

Nutter just proposed a9.7 tax increase..not a misprint.;9.7

Parasitical Dems Incredible!!!!!

What kind of substitute teacher is allowed to teach kids?

Don't agree at all, ND. Car mechanics, painters, gardeners, carpenters, plumbers all come to mind immediately.

You don't think carpenters need to add? Auto mechanics need very specialized knowledge today. It's unlikely that someone who is not capable of addition would succeed as a mechanic.

Gardening is not a trade.

I guess carpenters and builders of modular homes in the hog swamps of North Carolina don't need to add. They just snap the pieces together out of the box.

What a nitwit.

I had a plumber who could not even read. I had to read him instructions but he was a damn good plumber who owned his own business.

How in the world is it possible to run your own business without having the ability to read?

TJC followed him around.

Anothing amazing thing to add to the list. Just wow. And what's even more unbelievable is that he was reading him the Koran and he was able interpret that into fixing a busted pipe.

This made me laugh, but it begs the question:

Why would you hire someone to work for you if they don't know how to read, and you need to "read instructions to them" in order for them to complete the job?

That is absolutely mindboggling.

i had a kid who struggled to write. couldnt process names and spelled them how they sounded not how they were spelled. ie Susan he'd spell Suzzin. was the best employee i ever had, i gave him work that could show off his strengths and was able to work around his weaknesses.

One of the biggest lies ever trangressed on this board

Who would hire a guy who needed nonstop assistance from his customer?
How did he get through plumbing school?
How could he drive to the work site?
How did he manage to incorporate and start a company?

This is up there with Costanze saying the blind guy drove a better car than he did.

Just popped some more popcorn for this thread.

Umm, i'm pretty sure even when you attend trade schools you take "regular" type classes. You know, like English and Math. And you still have to pass such courses before graduation.

Cant use the phone. Cant use the internet.

i mean, what an absolutely absurd statement.

This thread is making me laugh hysterically.

This is as good as it gets for tjc. Spamming up BW, now telling tall tales about illiterate plumbers.

Anything for attention.

This thread is further proof that it's really not a, "same small group" thing. The group is actually much larger, but many members just have more self-control in addressing his nonsense.

Can we nake a movie about TJC's life?

It would combine Forrest Gump with Philadelphia with The Helen Keller Story with Stand and Deliver with 50/50 with Around the World in 80 Days with god knows what else, you name it

Don;t forget Old Yeller to depict Gretchen before her untimely death.

Michael Douglas can reprise his Liberace role to depict Moye.

that may be the funniest post of March. can we bring back Matt Damon as his BF? what a horrible movie. like a car accident, you dont want to but you have to look.

So sneaky by TJCS to drop this bomb in NCAA tourney time. Just casually throwing out the business owning illiterate plumber is a savage, calculated move that you have to respect it.

So, you can look at a person and access their reading skills, Vujoe? That's quite a gift. You might want to see if you can start a reality TV show to show off your amazing gift.

Yeah, I can usually tell if someone can't read.

My question was why would you hire someone to do work for you if they need someone to stand right next to them and "read them instructions?"

I'm guessing that this is a dealbreaker for the majority of customers. Apparently you are the exception.
