She won the 5000, but her time was not close to the A standard; it was about 55 seconds off -- 16:15+ needed under 15:20

Sheila had previously run a 15.23 5000 which was relatively close to the A standard. No other Canadian woman reached the A standard either.
Reid could still be chosen to represent Canada in the Olympics. Whatever happens, Congratulations to Sheila for another great win.

I think they will probably name her, but the Canadian committee screwed up by putting the trials at alttitude. Villanovarunning mentioned the rising star provision which allows Canada to put her on the team even without the A standard. If they don't, it would be an injustice to a very young, promising runner.

According to the listings at the Canadian Olympic site about what individual athletes have to do to make the team, both Reid and Wright are listed as having to finish in the top three and meet the A standard. The time listed for Wright is over the A standard. Also, I read a week or so ago that they will not allow anyone to chase the A after the trials. If villanovarunning is correct, which it usually is, Reid is the only possible Canadian entry as a rising star.
