When Obomba got re-elected I contemplated leaving, but now with the possibility of another bush, clinton or an ahole like trump as the next leader of this once great nation.......I now must seriously have a plan. Please give good reasons for your suggestions.........Gracious....

Unless you work *IN* politics the President and his administration will have zero influence on your life.

But if you're going to move, try Zurich. Switzerland

Was trying to explain this to someone last night. It's a figurehead position - plain and simple

If the president has nothing to do with anything, why is it such a big deal? and why does he get blamed for everything good or bad that happens during his watch?
As for the suggestions so far, Switz. sounds nice, but there is no reason why???
I wouldn't go to any middle eastern country, so syria is out......
As for how did the last 6 1/2 yrs go?? they were OK....If paying an arm and a leg for .kids in college.. is considered OK......cannot leave just yet......but anyone who thinks this country isn't in a world of shit, is delusional

The President is a figure head position? Seriously? I'll bite. Please explain this theory to me? You realize the President has tremendous powers and impact on everything just through the power of Executive Action. Regardless, please provide the theory of the figure head President?

In theory, this is true.

In practice, I am guessing that he means that whomever the President happens to be has very little impact on the daily life of Joe Citizen, at least directly.

Most people have no idea who their local/state elected officials are and they have more influence on the daily life of the average citizen than the jackass "Members" of Congress and the President do.

Obviously there are certain exceptions and I am not suggesting that the President has no influence whatsoever, but the prevailing mindset seems to be that those in Washington have absolutely no relevance to the vast majority of people whom they represent.

Okay, I hate Obama as much as anyone and there are MANY, MANY things for which he deserves blame for but blaming him for the rising costs of college doesn't seem to be one of them. The rising cost of college has been the trend for quite some time and won't be stopping anytime soon. And this, coming from someone who just made his first college payment in the past month, so the pain is still fresh for me. But it's not Hussein's fault, in my opinion.

- Singapore if you are married and especially with kids. Not bad if single but better if with family. Nothing bad about the place - clean, safe, friendly, great weather, great school system, vibrant expat community, many bars/clubs and restaurants, and great launching pad for cheap flights in the region.
- Hong Kong if you are single as it is a lot more fun and great place for business with a great expat community as well but air quality can be issue at times and there are not enough seats for international school kids. Also reasonable flights within region to many other destinations within 4 hours.
- Bermuda and Cayman Islands if you are in law, accounting/tax, or fund management
- Dubai and Abu Dhabi are reasonably ok
- Tokyo still has radiation issues from Fukushima
- US and EU are a mess as is the rest of the Middle East
- No idea about South/Central America region

You obviously would fit in and enjoy moving to Pyongyang, North Korea.......If you're not fond of the US Government, you would probably love living under Kim Jung-Un.......

Arguing voters are stupid and don't pay attention is not the same thing as saying the President doesn't impact their lives. Ignorance does not make it so.

This coming from the guy who said anyone who travels outside the continental US is crazy.

Literally one of the funniest/saddest things ive ever read.

Are you single? Are you working?

Some great things about living in Central America, plenty of negatives as well. There is BS in every country although I guess I don't notice it down here b/c I really don't pay attention to the news/politics/etc.

Take purchasing a car for instance. Move to Costa Rica, prepare to pay almost twice as much for a car as you would in the states. That goes for pretty much anything imported. Huge import taxes. It's nice and cheap if you want to live like a local, but that gets old in about two days.

Good luck getting a bank account these days (thanks Obama).

Better be patient if you live down this way. Shit moves so slow. Can't go a day without a head-scratching "what the fck!?" type moment.

I like it though

Glad you liked my idea.......and I didn't say I would go live with Kim Jung-un........I like living in the USA.....and I served this country unlike most on this board........just suggested a location for someone who doesn't like living in the USA anymore. If you like traveling outside the USA so much, maybe you could take a one way cruise to North Korea.

Adp,
As an expert, what % of the blame or credit that a president receives is actually due to his influence (as opposed to just sh*t that gets "assigned" to him)?
I would say that depends on the issue. A specific example, Tuesday I spoke to someone and their company just alerted their 50K employees they would be dropping their health insurance and putting everyone into the Obamacare exchanges. On something like that, 100%. However, when you look at something as massive as the US economy, I would suggest a sitting President receives a lot more credit or blame for the economy than appropriate. Look at what happened yesterday at the Fed, Obama appointed Yellen so he has some responsibility. However, is he to blame/credit for the fact the Feds didn't raise interest rates? Let's say the fed kicked the can 9 months, that's right in the middle of a Presidential election and if it causes a major blip in the economy Obama and the Dem nominee will get blamed. Is that really fair? Same thing happened to Republicans when Wall Street collasped in October of 08. Somehow it was Bush's fault despite that was 30 years of bad policies decisions by both parties.

The president has power. I think the fairer point is that it doesn't really matter who which party is in office.

I strongly disagree. Federal Regulations have a tremendous impact on every aspect of our lives. This is where you see significant differences between the political parties. If you run a utility, it matters greatly who is sitting at the EPA making these regulations. Every good you purchase is impacted by that decision. I don't think you guys are thinking through the vast reach of the federal government into our lives.

Voters are fed up with the blowhards who are "inside the beltway" who don't give two shits about them. Which is why Donald Trump and Ben Carson lead the Republican field.

Those who feel this way are not ignorant, nor are they stupid.

The point you made was the average Joe doesn't feel as if people in Washington represent or impact their lives. My response was just because they are ignorant as to how the laws and regulations of the land impact them does not mean they do not. That is the ignorance you pointed out and the ignorance I'm speaking to. It's very obvious there is a massive segment of this country who feels the way you describe. I completely agree with you on that and Trump/Carson etc....It cannot be denied. Also Hillary's problem, along with the fact she's seen as completely untrustworthy.

My day to day life is not going to change significantly regardless of who is in the White House, and I have a feeling that I am not the only person who feels this way. Hence the large percentage of the electorate who doesn't give a shit. If you call that ignorance, I disagree. More like being disillusioned.

The items that impact me the most are decided at the local level, i.e. how much the resident political hacks want to raise my taxes this year. Most of what I hear from Washington is political posturing and bullshit rhetoric. Those who are living in that bubble obviously feel that this is of extreme importance.

Didn't think the figurehead term would be taken so literally. I just think a lot of the things we gauge our lives on (standard of living, property value, amount of halal food options in our neighborhood, etc) are realistically impacted by the president. The reason we all pay so much attention is because it fulfills our belief systems and gives us something to do.

In the past 7 years, the biggest change has probably been the ACA. Yes, very impactful - but I don't see extreme changes from it in either direction. Take that and run with it if you want, but healthcare is still a strong suit of this country.

Completely agree. I tend to trust that our government officials will do their best and are generally capable. You're talking about entire departments vs. one man. I just feel like whoever is elected, regardless of their platform coming, is educated upon taking the position to the point where they aren't going to mess things up too badly - and encouraged by their handlers/advisors to make logical decisions. And they will be held accountable if things go awry - our system works, Maybe I watch too much Veep though.

Just because someone is disillusioned or ignorant to what's happening around them does not mean those things cease to exist.

I never said that they cease to exist, I said that they do not have a significant impact on my day to day life.

Both political parties are completely dug in. If Hillary wins, it will be more of the same.

If a Republican wins, they will try to repeal Obamacare and undo everything that happened in the past eight years, and the Democrats will fight tooth and nail to obstruct those efforts.

I can see how foreign policy could be significantly altered, but again, my life will not change that much if at all regardless of who wins the election. However, it is solid entertainment watching these nitwits participate in their monthly circle jerk/dick measuring contest on cable news. It gives the pundits and talking heads something to do for the next 14 months.

I never said that they cease to exist, I said that they do not have a significant impact on my day to day life.
Don't forget that the party in power has a significant impact on what special interest groups are getting sucked off and which groups of companies are cashing in their favors.

Again, Just because you might not connect these things to your personal life doesn't mean a connection ceases to exist. People have apathy towards the process, I get it. It simply doesn't mean because of how people "feel" the world around them stops/doesn't impact their lives. It might not impact how they feel but that's an emotional response to something that is not emotional.

I never said that the world around me stops.

I said that as a practical matter, who the President happens to be has very little impact on my daily life.

Given that you are a lobbyist, I completely understand how you would feel differently.
