The best country (ies)or island to move to.........

your day to day life will change dramatically when you spent your whole life trying to amass some wealth and all of a sudden you have none. Let this government keep printing money and increasing the debt........it all comes to an end.........best to have an exit plan before the shoe drops

I'll give you a very specific example that I'm working on today. In March of last year the Administration put out an Interim Final Rule that enabled exchange plans to deny non-profit charities from making third party payments for people with high healthcare costs. This has resulted in thousands of people with chronic, expensive conditions to be unable to pay their healthcare premiums in the exchanges. This was done by the flick of a pen of the CMS Administrator. You tell all those people who no longer can rely on charities to help them receive care that government has no impact in their lives. This was done for a very simple reason: the insurance companies and this Administration are in bed together to ensure Obamacare is a success. So they are basically discriminating against people who have expensive, chronic conditions because they cost money. This is one of the ways they accomplished this goal. If you aren't one of these people, you have no idea this is happening. There are so many decisions made every day that have real world, broad impacts on people's lives and they have no clue. Usually, you don't figure these things out until you already have a problem.

You think that's going to change if a Republican wins? I don't. And I have not voted for a Democrat since 2006 so it's not that I believe that they are any better.

These clowns can't get anything done even when they control the White House and both houses of Congress. And that goes for both parties.

ADO I thought this got settled. Didn't the CHA chick get them to confirm that the rule didn't apply to entities like them??

I said that who the President is has very little impact on my day to day life. Not the federal government.

Why would the CMS Administrator arbitrarily implement a rule that prevents people from paying their Obamacare premiums, even if they are high utilizers? Isn't their goal to inflate the enrollment numbers to prove that Obamacare is a success by reducing the number of people who have no coverage?

Back to the topic at hand...

dirtyd mentioned the bank account issue - very big problem everywhere in the world these days due to FATCA. Forget opening a local bank account anywhere. No foreign banks want to deal with the hassle of having to report on US citizens. Only option would be a Citibank account, BoA, or any other US bank in whatever country.

One commonality between Singapore, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the Cayman Islands is that they all have extremely low to zero tax rates. In Singapore, you can earn $200,000 and pay just 9.5% tax on that income. The top tax bracket is 20% for income earned over $320,000. No surprise at the high quality of life in those places plus year-round tropical weather.

For Mainliner II, I guess those who never travel outside their home country and know no better and swallow all the media/political propaganda bs about how great their country is, how terrible other parts of the world are, etc. one would never know any differently. Though if you were in the military, would expect you were overseas at some point and have a broader perspective. Sounds a lot like N. Korea and their government propaganda machine talking about the evils of the US, its high crime and incarceration rates, drug use, low education rankings, military exploits engaging in wars all over the world, and the need for them to develop nuclear weapons to protect themselves and how good they really are...brainwashing at its best. Goes both ways.

Because the insurance plans were freaking out they would be hit with only sick people and pressured CMS to give them as much flexibility as possible. They had CMS over a barrel because if you recall the website wasn't working, etc...the enrollment process was a mess. The goal is to get the numbers up but not with a bunch of sick people because that's a problem if you don't have a huge numbers in the plans. Which at the onset, they did not. However, the rule stands and we've been trying to get it over-turned for a year. Seems like it would be easy and commonsense but not in Washington. The point is these types of decisions are made everyday by the Administration. Who the President is has a significant impact because he chooses the people who make these decisions. These are political appointees. It's matters greatly. Now take every area of the economy and millions of these decisions impacting every regulated thing in our life. You might not notice these things or think it matters. I understand why you might think this but it's wrong. It certainly matters to those people who come seeking help as these decisions directly impact their lives. You are blessed if you never have any of these issues. However, there are decisions made every day that impact many areas of your life that you aren't aware. What do you do for a living? My guess is in a field where a government regulation can have a direct impact on your employer. That impacts you even if you don't know it.

No. This did not get settled. March 19, 2014, CMS put out an interim final rule that gives this power to the exchange plans. They exempted ADAP, Indian Health and government entities but not non-profit charities.

Fair enough. That is a good example. As you say, I am fortunate that this issue does not affect me.

My experience is that my day to day has not really changed one way or the other regardless of whether a "D" or an "R" is in office. Of course this may change if one of these specific scenarios becomes relevant to me. Hopefully that will not be the case.

Has HHS actually enforced against a non profit? I thought I read following the interim final rule they clarified for catholic hospitals via letter that not for profit entities could continue making the payments. Are you trying to overturn the whole rule or just get the exception confirmed on paper

They don't have to because they gave the power to the plans. So the plans deny payment, not technically cms...who gave them the power. 28 plans have implemented these prohibitions.

Yoy probably read their feb 7 comments, which the march 19 interim final rule superceded. Only the government. We got another letter today where they cite their feb 7th guidance and ignore their own March guidance. When I called them on it, they had no response. Liars. Pisses me off to no end. They ate hurting the very people this was supposed to help. Essentially an end around to the preexisting conditions language.

Yeah because that explicitly had something about Non profits right? I loosely follow for work but it's a lot to keep up on

got it... Maybe it's just the Ryan white stuff I remember then.
Yes they fixed that portion. I worked on that as well. We're trying to get the rile tweaked to allow non profit charities, not throw the entire rule. They are going after for profit hospitals and have a legitimate gripe there.

Yep, yoy nailedbit. They exempted nonprofits in February only to screw them in March

Even with ADP's very good example of a president's actions screwing over a group of people, I still don't think my life will be changed that much by whoever becomes president.

Yes, just because you don't see things happening it doesn't mean they don't exist. I don't know the guy who takes my garbage off the sidewalk but I know he does what he has to do and I trust that he'll do it every 3.5 days. The president honestly isn't much more valuable to me than the trash pickup artist

On topic, correct answer for me is carribbean. Somewhere I can wear shorts, lots of water activities and great weather.
