American Gangster and The Departed were both good movies and newer films. and also for me Pope of Greenwich Village is up there.

I find it impossible to turn off the Godfather 1 and 2 if i catch it mid movie on tv.

Yea, might have to find room in my top 10 for Pope. Enjoyed the other two, too.

Coming out in Sept. Johnny Depp in Black Mass, the Whitey Bulger story.

I think I need a ruling on how we are categorizing Mob/Gangster? Is this strictly the Italian American understanding?

If we broaden this there are 2 movies with gangster undertones that stick out to me that I guess are open to interpretation:

Pulp Fiction and Mystic River.

if we are talking undertones, Raging Bull is mob related. so is On the Waterfront which to me is the best crime/gangster film.

Yes, fair thoughts. I was thinking the same thing.

Two categories. One strictly for traditional mafia and another for crime/gangsters.

So, Carlito's Way, Scarface would go under the latter.

I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.

Number One, why aren't you in when I f*cking told you to be in? Number Two, why doesn't this hotel have phones with f*cking voicemail and not have to leave messages with the f*cking receptionist? Number Three, you better ****ing be in tomorrow night when I f*cking call again or there'll be f*cking hell to pay. I'm f*cking telling you - Harry.

A Prophet (2010)
The Yellow Sea (2010)
City of God (2003)
Animal Kingdom (2010)
Ichi the Killer (2001)
Sexy Beast (2000)
Tsotsi (2005)
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
The Man from Nowhere (2010)
Sonatine (1993)
Gangster No 1 (2000)

Road to Perdition was pretty good for an Irish mob movie.

best Irish mob movie was state of grace or the departed.

Add Sopranos to that list - where does it belong?

Better than Gotti, not sure that should even be in the list.

But a TV series is simply not a movie. The Sopranos has 6 seasons of content and character development. Even Godfathers 1, 2, 3 + extras don't come close.

The Sopranos wasn't a movie. Therefore, it's not on the list.
