Agreed. CF is brilliant in comparison to VV. I'm not a VV hater, but they went for name recognition here and gave little thought if his style could pull it off.
Farrell isn't just pretty good in comparison to Vaughn, Farrell's just really good in this down and out, drug and alcohol addled roles, sort of like playing himself, right down his alley. And the stache is a nice touch, though it looked comical in the previews. He's also decent playing a cop (always enjoyed his work in Minority Report).
I haven't seen much of Farrell's work but I thought he was good in Martin McDonagh's films. Vaughn is comically bad in True Detective. He needs to go back to playing the same character over and over and over. You know, the Owen Wilson approach.
Not sure why we needed 4 episodes to get here. Frankly everything worthwhile should have been covered in 2 episodes max.
Vince Vaughn and his wife continue to be painful to watch.
The greatest trick Nick Pizzolatto pulled was tricking the audience that he is smart. I think this was proved in the first season's finale, as much of the season turned out to be dead-end nonsense. The first 4 episodes of the 2nd season are further proof. I just imagine him thinking these one liners are awesome when he writes them.

Yea, just about every VV scene ends with some weak-ass one-liner that he fails to pull off. It's almost like the lines were specifically created for a VV Wedding Crashers-type character. One problem. It's not that kind of show and this Frank guy shouldn't be your typical VV character.
i caught up last night and the shoot out was good but it was pretty much the same plot twist as season 1. shoot out, cops kill the bad guys, everyone thinks the case is solved. OH WAIT its not.
McAdams and CF are carrying the show. everything else about it is pretty bad. i will say the plot twist about the guy who assualted CFs wife was a nice touch.
3 more to go. im already invested. ill watch to the end. did the same with boardwalk empire.

good episode last night. I feel like they could have done this season in probably 6 episodes max.
I also find myself losing track of a lot of the guys' names they refer to sometimes.
lastly, I know its artistic license or whatever, but how in the hell would Burris know Woodrugh would be coming out of that exit? I know we're not supposed to ask that question but that annoyed me

I thought Vaughn was very good in the last episode. Did the black cop die or was he just knocked out?
how is the mayor still standing? he is drunk in every episode. cant believe he hasnt died yet of alcohol poisoning.

whats getting me about Season 2 is Vaughn has no muscle, he has like 3 guys and he is messing with a Russian/ Israeli mafia leader? he'd last about half a second if this were real.
Season was a turd; especially compared to Season 1.
Vince Vaughn was atrocious. Whoever cast him for that role deserves a kick in the nuts.
CF was good, although the miserable mumbling act got old.
