Bella Burda is fastest XC girl in state of New York. Also won eastern States 2 miles and NY state 3000i. Here's the merged results of all classifications at last week's NY state XC:

Robert Tully (Ireland) just committed to University of Tulsa (along with Luke Traynor from Scotland). Marcus seemed interested in Tully, although I have no idea if he was ever offered. Tully is a 1:49 800m guy from Ireland who competed at World Juniors a few months back.

SIAP, Villanova women have signed Kaleigh Hughes (Needham, Mass).

PRs are:

800: 2:14.09
1000: 2:55.27
1500: 4:57.74
Mile: 4:56.33

Looks like she's an 800/1500 specialist.

I was out doing the Thanksgiving shopping. Driving on one of the major roads and stopped at a traffic light. Have passed this intersection many times. Looked-up at the street sign for the cross street probably for the first time ever - Ostrander Avenue. Is that a sign (that Allie Ostrander might be coming)?

Probably just an interesting coincidence, but who knows? Life is always strangely fascinating.

As we know, Grant Fisher (Grand Blanc, MI) committed to Stanford. This story (linked) indicates that it came down to Stanford vs. Villanova for this kid.

Fisher's coach re: Stanford: "I saw a twinkle in his eye from that place compared to everyone else."

Fisher article

That's a bummer, but I can't really fault a kid for picking Stanford over any school. Stings less than had he gone to Oregon or Wisconsin, or Oklahoma State

Bill Maher (Real Time with Bill Maher, HBO) is fond of saying, "Why are we the stupid country?" He happens to be right, but I was thinking of that line after I saw this post.

In A Man for All Seasons, Sir Thomas More confronts his long time friend, Sir Richard Rich after the latter's treachery: "Why Richard, it profits a man noting to sell his soul for the whole world ... But for Wales!" For Penn State ...??? You cannot be serious.

I know Marcus approached the family about coming to Villanova and they said no. That is stupid for so many reasons.

People always come-up with some rationale for aberrant behavior. Are they still bitter because Villanova fired Marshall?

Marcus would have been good for Myles. Too bad they could not see that.

Everyone has freedom of choice. And with Myles' talent, I am quite sure he had many choices. But stupid is as stupid does.

Also reminds me of another line from Groucho Marx: "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."

Two things : I can assure you I am not stupid and I can , once again, assure you that I would not go to a school or work for a company that fired my father. If you cannot understand that sentiment you're personal experience must be limited.

I wrote before that he wouldn't come to Nova. Yes, Marshall was fired as coach, but there was also the Jenkins era; also Stern was coach, then he wasn't. A bitter time for Nova track before Marcus took over. I was Certain that Myles Marshall wouldn't be coming to the Main Line. PSU is just a little salt in the wound.

Spring-Ford High's (Royerstown, PA) Paul Power (11th at State AAA XC in 2014 after 20th in same race in 2013) will compete for Villanova come fall 2015 -- although (as per attached article) likely to redshirt in year one. 15:24 and 4th place at Paul Short Run (brown) this year. That's his 5K XC PR. Looks like this fellow gets better the longer the distance. Other PR are:

3200: 9:38.95
3000i: 8:55.68
1600: 4:24.95
800: 2:04

Welsh international 800 meter ace Elliott Slade (1:48, 3:52i, 8:52i) has enrolled and is attending class. Tons of international experience competing for Britain. Excellent get for Mark Carberry & Marcus.

Update on Kailee Sawyer. She did recruiting visit to Georgetown last weekend. Today she's in Fayetteville at Arkansas. Anyone know about visit to Villanova?

Recruiting Updates:

(1) Villanova has signed Bloomington, Indiana's Griffin Tichenor for the incoming 2015 class. He was 14th at the Indiana state XC meet this past fall. His PRs are:

1600 = 4:23.36
Mile = 4:21.30
3200 = 9:23.86
5K XC = 15:31.10

(2) Villanova has inked as well a 51.5' shot put man, Henry Sise, from Illinois. Looks like a football recruit as well, likely to play center at Villanova.

(3) 800-meter phenoom Myles Marshall (son of Villanova all-time greats John Marshall and Debbie Grant) has flipped his commitment from Penn State to Harvard.

Update I saw on Run Nova

Villanova T&F has added Casey Comber to its 2015 recruiting class. PRs of 14:56 (5000), 9:17 (3200), 8:47 (3000). 20th at 2014 FL XC Nats

Yes -- really good get for Mark and Marcus. More announcements forthcoming, evidently. Stay tuned.

Both the men and women need a couple of outstanding middle distance runners who can compete at a high level next year.

I guess we agree to disagree about the men being set for two more years in the middle distances. To me, it looks like 2015-2016 is OK, but beyond that needs bolstering.

According to an earlier post by LSU Nit in this thread, yes. Also, Runnova says she is a Nova signee.

There are comments on Letsrun that Logan Wetzel is coming to Nova. Is this accurate?

Sawyer to Arkansas was confirmed a few weeks back.

Hughes to Villanova was confirmed back in the fall.

Send the link about Wetzel on LRC...

This was the first time I saw Wetzel or Brazier run, I have seen Grant Fisher about 5 times.

First if all, to the poster who said he almost beat Grant? Really? In what world is that? Did you see the video, Fisher controls the race the whole last 880 winning easily.

These guys could race 100 times right now while in HS and Fisher would win 100 times.

Brazier looks like a Monster prospect and Wetzel will thrive at Villanova with the group they have now, but they will not beat Fisher at a mile this year.

THERE IS ANOTHER MENTION ON LETSRUN ABOUT WETZEL AND NOVA TALKING ABOUT HOW NOVA HAS A FUTURE 1200/1600 DMR LEG.

Two things:

(1) Logan Wetzel from Saline (MI) has signed with Villanova, it seems. So, yes. Great addition to the 2015 incoming class.

SebastianC (who posts here frequently) has found information that seems to confirm that Logan Wetzel is indeed committed to Villanova. He's a 4:08 miler indoors (2015 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix winner), was 2nd in 15:19 PR to USA #1 Grant Fisher at Michigan state prep XC championship in November 2014. 1:49 800 meter split last summer.

2) LSU-Nit = @RunNova = Villanova Running website (now dormant): all the same guy (me)
wink.r191677.gif

I mention this only so that you don't see the same rumor/confirmation from me here (as LSU-Nit) and on Twitter (@RunNova) as confirmation from 2 different sources. That being said, I do not tweet anything without confirmation from legitimate sources.

LSU-Nit, I figured you were RunNova. It's nice to have confirmation though.

I enjoyed Villanova Running also, and since it's not active, I guess I should now take it off my favorites list.

Thanks, ExCattyGuy: I really liked doing the website, but it was demanding an increasing amount of my time. New job responsibilities meant that I had to jump off for a while.

Unfortunately, if it's just a verbal, it isn't official. When it the next signing period, or did he sign and the report is just a little off?

He seems like he would be a great addition to the team.

Good question -- I worried about the same thing.

The story says that he verbally committed to Villanova in January. As we know on this board, rumors floated for weeks that he had committed, but there was no announcement from Logan himself. That changed Tuesday night when he announced it on Twitter (admittedly he said "verbally committed" in his tweet). However, I take that announcement from Tuesday night as categorically different than the "silent verbal" from January. Looks to me like a done deal -- perhaps NLI paperwork in process?

Villanova T&F has signed Highland Park (Dallas), Texas horizontal jumper Pearson Feagans.

PRs are as follows:

TJ = 45' 5"

LJ = 22' 5"

Also played cornerback on prep football team and may be in line to do football at Villanova as well.

pearson_feagans.jpg

Villanova has signed Finland's 400 / 800 meter man Ville Lampinen (Twitter announcement of such on March 1).

His PRs are:

400 meters = 47.85

800 meters = 1:48.46
