Something I noticed about OK

If you watched our open practice on Friday, you saw EVERY SINGLE MINUTE scripted and formally executed on the floor. We had 50 minutes of valuable time there, and Jay was going to maximize the impact of what could be termed a "show" not a real practice.

So, I kept the station rolling after our open practice at NRG to catch some of the Oklahoma session. Jim Nantz was doing his schmoozy interview with Kruger. All you saw were dudes on both ends of the court just shooting around - like before a pickup game or something. Nantz noticed too, and asked him something like "are you going to run any of your normal practice stuff out here today?"

Kruger was last in the Final Four with Florida in 1994. This stage and moment has matured incredibly since then. Jay learned so much in 2009 about being in the middle of the bright lights of this stage. Kruger did not have his guys ready, and IMO, it showed from the approach to this practice.

Jay in his pressers has also mentioned how having more opportunity to practice at NRG really helped him and his guys get comfortable with the venue. He clearly had a script that was driven by the assistants and embraced by the players. Impressive.

True Story

I am watching the Kansas game at the brew room in Delray Beach a bunch of KU fans sit down next to my wife and I and an older gentleman looks at my wife and says fasten your seatbelt's Nova is going to get taken for a ride . At the end of game the same gentleman starts whining and crying about the last two minutes worth of calls . My wife says when you're team is going to take another for a ride you shouldn't have to worry about calls. I responded by calling him a crybaby. At the end of the game the kids son jumps up and says don't get too excited buddy Heillis going to beat you guys by 20 just like they did last time. Wish I could talk to that kid this morning

couldn't successfully sleep in, so ...

here are some stats for you:
With 56 NCAA wins - Villanova is now 11th among all schools

With 80 combined post-season wins - Villanova is now 7th among all schools - in elite company with KY, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Kansas & Louisville.

From an AP Ranking perspective the Cats are on a nice roll with consecutive wins over: #25, #10, #1, #7
… next up #3

Only a dozen schools have beaten the #1 ranked team in the AP Poll 6 or more times. Villanova got to that mark with the W over Kansas:
Feb.13, 1983 12 Villanova North Carolina 56-53 Chapel Hill, NC
Apr. 1, 1985 NR Villanova Georgetown 66-64 Lexington, KY
Jan. 6, 1990 NR Villanova Syracuse 93-74 Greensboro, NC
Feb. 18, 1995 15 Villanova Connecticut 96-73 Storrs, CT
Feb. 13, 2006 4 Villanova Connecticut 69-64 Philadelphia, PA
Mar, 26, 2016 6 Villanova Kansas 64-59 Louisville, KY

Ryan Arcidiacono needs 3 points on Monday to pass JVP for 20th all-time on the career scoring list. He needs 12 points to get to 1600 for his career. He is also 4th in Assists and 14th in steals.

Kris Jenkins now has 899 career points.

Jenkins and Hart have 96 wins … there are only four Villanova senior classes that graduated with more than 96 wins … these guys still have a whole season and one game to play.

Phil Booth is 67-8 in a Villanova uniform - crazy!

Needless to say UNC has not seen a defense like ours, while we have played a top notch defensive team in Kansas, plus another couple highly rated ones in Miami and OK. Syracuse is highly rated, but they play a passive zone. I think UNC is about to get a taste and it's going to be a bit of a shock.

OK Game Thoughts

obviously, we played great, better than great. But I was also amazed by how ill prepared OU was. Did they even watch tapes of our games in the last few weeks. While we beat Kansas, they made it really tough on our offense. Every point was a struggle. OU was clueless, were they doubling Chef or not? I don't think even they knew? No pressure on the perimeter on our guards, made for very easy passes around perimeter and down low to Chef on the post. They had no answer for Hart. Did not even try to stop his drives to the middle of lane, his favorite move. Never got a body on him in box out situations. Let KJ have open jumpers all over the place. Zero toughness, we got almost every loose ball and were much more physical than them, we bullied them.

Do not take this as a knock on us, we were gonna beat them regardless given how we played, but defensively OU was dreadful. First four minutes of second half was the only time they even looked to,have interest on D.
