OT: Justyn Mutts - 2017 F (St. Augustine Prep, NJ)

St. Augustine destroyed my old high school CBA the other day by 30+ points, in the state playoffs. From the opening tip, St. Augustine just had too much speed and athleticism, and a big reason why was their junior forward Justyn Mutts. This kid had 7 dunks! 24 points, 11 boards, a bunch of blocks. The gym turned into a one-man dunk contest in the second quarter. He finished off back-to-back fast breaks with alley-oops, one on a windmill.

He's a textbook combo forward, at 6'7", and apparently he really needs work on his perimeter skills, if he's going to play some small forward. But he's got a great motor and game-changing athleticism. I was just surprised that, currently, he has very few offers. He's a top target for Monmouth, and has a couple low-D1 offers. Temple and St. Joe's are reportedly gaining interest. He might be the ultimate sleeper of 2017 - he will be picking up offers in the coming months.

As far as the NJ state playoffs go, nationally-ranked, 28-0 St. Anthony's is definitely the favorite for the Tournament of Champions. But they will have competition from the field. Roselle Catholic, Seton Hall Prep, Linden, and St. Augustine Prep (I think SAP will knock off St. Joe's Metuchen and Ty Battle - could be wrong here) could all give Bob Hurley some problems.

Typical post season snooze fest

Not much energy...getting destroyed/out-hustled on the boards...no free-throws...key player (Daniel) contributing little to nothing...

We'll at least we know the post season has arrived. Hope the Cats wake up? This is against an opponent who was still playing at 9:00 last night. We should be running them out of the building. Since about the 11 minute mark of Saturday's game when Nova went up 27-6, Georgetown has out-played the Cats. Not sure we seeing anything that suggests this season will end any differently than last year. Hope to see more of a sense of urgency in the second half, especially rebounding and driving the ball to the hoop.

Who is going to take over?

This team has been so great the last couple of years in the regular season. Come tournament time, it is absolutely critical to have that "go to guy" that can take over a game when crap is hitting the fan.

Ever since Scottie Reynolds walked out the door, it doesn't feel like we have that guy on a consistent basis. Plenty of guys that step up in spots or come through in clutch moments, but nobody that can settle the whole team down and completely take over a game on a consistent basis.

It is almost like we are so team oriented that everyone is looking at the guy across from them waiting for someone to make a move.

I fully expect that we will pull this game out because we are so much better than this Georgetown team. However, someone needs to be willing to take the reigns come NCAA tournament time... looking at Hart, Arch and Brunson specifically.

First of the player eval articles - Ochefu & Reynolds

here goes:
https://villanova.n.rivals.com/news/player-evals-ochefu-reynolds

What I did was take the exact comments I made on each player during my preseason preview article and put that under "Preseason Prognosis" ... then I added some post seasons observations, each players shot chart and a grade that is done in part based on expectations and in part based on contributions.
