2:30 PM St. John's University at Creighton (FS1) (Kenpom: 81-65 Creighton (93%))

I am pulling for Butler, Villanova, Providence, Seton Hall, and Creighton.

What I will watch for today on D.

This is the first time in four weeks that Rivals granted me access to Nova Nation. In the X game when
they were getting and making good looks to increase their lead, much of the time KJ and DO were
sitting. I have a feeling that both of them have a part in calling out or pointing to players about where the players should be on D. I think it might be a part of Jay's scheme. I will watch that closely this afternoon.
Any thoughts

Good win.

Our leaders played well. Jenkins is developing into a star before our eyes. Would have taken 1 -1 before this week.

I will say I don't think they have the look of a contender. Not having a true go to guy, limited athleticSm is evident and we just don't have that look to me,

Also , to me, our bench production and quality is very concerning

"PG" Efficiency for a Freshman

Thought this was interesting using the Kenpom offensive efficiency #'s and % of minutes used for all of JW's freshman "PG's":

(Newest first)

Brunson = 111 and 62% usage
Booth = 128 and 35%
Arch = 100 and 84%
Ty Johnson = 78 and 44%
Wayns = 103 and 37%
Fisher = 94 and 53%
Grant = 113 and 26%
Scottie = 107 and 74%
Lowry = 98 and 43%
Nardi = 102 and 80%
Foye = 86 and 66%

So I bring this up because I know people are calling into question Brunson's performance verses expectations. As you can see from above, from a usage and efficiency standpoint, Brunson is 3rd behind two guys who's roles were to come off the bench and shoot 3's/score more than anything else. Brunson, comparing all the other guards who started and/or had significant roles, is currently outperforming them all.

The one caveat here is that Brunson is only 6 games into the Big East schedule, and he is currently hit and miss with his performances so far. I just thought it was interesting to compare his first year against some all-time greats.

Seth Davis Gets Scouting Reports on Various Big East Teams

Villanova (24–4, 13–2): "Their reliance sometimes on the three-point shot can be a problem. If they're playing a team that can physically beat 'em up, that may prove to be problematic. They show up every game because they have older, really good players. They don't have great depth on the front line, which can be a problem for one game in March. [Senior center Daniel] Ochefu is solid, but I wouldn't say he's a great offensive player. He plays his role. [Junior forward Kris] Jenkins at the four is tough, because he's a great shooter and has a really good feel. [Senior guard Ryan] Arcidiacono is probably the toughest player in our conference. [Junior guard Josh] Hart is a right-handed player who does everything left-handed. If you crowd him and sit on his left hand, it's almost comical how it affects him. Ochefu is bigger than you realize. If you get him off the block, like most bigs, he's not nearly as effective."

the first cut look at the Pavilion wish list

Here is what the consensus opinion on the most important items is based on my first cut of the data:
1787758.jpg

The next step is probably to combine the inputs to get a little more at the general thrust of what the person is looking to improve and see if the top dozen or so items are really an inter-related, top 5 or 6 items.
There is certainly over-lap and different ways to interpret some of the suggestions. There are similar idea, if combined, that can satisfy multiple "requests" ... for example the generic "improve food and drink" and the "add bar/restaurant" can be answered with one aspect of the Pavilion upgrade.
I will work the data some more and try to consolidate.
It certainly is a consensus that people want a chair-back seat of adequate size to fit a normal-sized human.

old school jewelz

It is strange to look back and think that this was posted on VUSports in Jay's first season:

Jewelz's Gems: A Student's Perspective

Jewelz

Ah yes, Jewelz has returned after a Christmas vacation full of exotic trips, extravagant hotels, jewelry, and more women than you can ever imagine to bring you what you crave: Jewelz and Villanova Basketball.
Now, it first must be stated that when initially asked by Pete and Bill to do such an article, Jewelz demanded that a D ticket be required to view his material, along with 10% of all VUsports profits related to his posts. However, after further discussions, Jewelz agreed that his first few posts will be free to all the lower subscribers. It shall be known that Jewelz happened to be in the Christmas spirit at the time (he also happened to be in the process of drinking bottle after bottle of cristal with his boy Heff at a bunny party). This could be the reason for Jewelz's submission.

Jewelz would first like to give a shout-out to all those fans who were at the Nova / ND game. Jewelz and members of crew thik hopped on the G4 to attend the game and the after party hosted by the alumni association. Cru thik almost witnessed one of the great debacles in hoops history. After the game, Jewelz had a few words with various members of the team and with D. Snowden. Snow was a bit upset, but Thik counseled him and helped him get his confidence back.

Jewelz also happened to get a few words with Jay Wright. Other than Jay being excited about the possibility of next year's recruiting class, nothing new in this department. Jewelz did, however, hear some interesting news when he got back to Villanova. When Jewelz returned to campus from the FU center after watching his boy A.I. drop 58 on the Rockets, he spoke with a few sources within the organization from his car. Pulling up to the Pavilion in his 2002 Escalade with chrome 22's, Jewelz was disappointed to hear word that some people think Jay is getting bigger than life around campus. Perhaps too big. These people think he is getting a bit too full of himself, and a few peeps are getting all upset about it.

To all those Jay Wright haters out there, Jewelz says this: don't hate that beautiful baby Jay Dubs, hate the game. Nobody likes a playa-hater. As far as the Great One is concerened, Jay can do whatever he wants with the job he's doing and the cats he's pulling in. Unless you're the one in the Armani suit, be sure to get him his escargot served on a silver platter on demand.

Note to Jay: Jewelz loves the new Range Rover compliments of the dealer down the street to go along with the Navigator. You should look into dubs.

But for now , Jewelz must get back work. As for Jewelz's special fans (Milo's wife and Doug's wife, among others), you need not worry...Jewelz will be back soon with another post.
