Final Set of VUSports Nike EYBL Minneapolis Session Player Evals

to polish off the coverage: over the next day or two I will be assimilating everything I learned into a breakdown of who the Cats have, what skills they need to add in 2016 and 2017, what prospects are out there that would ideally fill those skill needs and some surmising on what players the Cast could land and/or are most likely to land in the next two classes - as long as nobody holds me to the prognostications.

thank you to everyone who has remained loyal to this site for so many years. it provides me the opportunity to go out and see all these players and come back and chat about them with many of you that have also seen them play of heard about them. makes it a lot of fun when everyone can share their opinions. i can only think of about 3 recruits since Derrick Snowden arrived on campus that I did not get to see play live prior to their arrival on campus - Chris Charles, Mislav Brzoja, and Mo Sutton.

Sports Provides Backdrop as FOX and FOX Sports 1 Remind Viewers about

“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”

New York -- The sudden attack of United States military installations on the Hawaiian Islands on Dec. 7, 1941, which saw almost 2,400 lives lost, catapulted the country into World War II and united all Americans in a groundswell of patriotism. Later this year, FOX Sports, with the help of the four branches of the United States military - Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force - pays solemn tribute to those who tragically fell that day, in that four-year conflict and the sacrifice of today’s uniformed personnel around the world in a weekend-long remembrance.

Using sports as a backdrop, FOX Sports is honored to call Pearl Harbor home Dec. 4-7, 2015, paying tribute to the nation’s military while enlightening Americans about the world-altering events that occurred there almost 75 years ago on “a date which will live in infamy.” Activities and events associated with three of FOX Sports’ core sports – Major League Baseball, National Football League and college basketball – are planned throughout the extra-long weekend.

Among the events scheduled is a college basketball clash featuring defending BIG EAST champion Villanova and Oklahoma in a contest slated for Monday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. local time (7 p.m. eastern). That game will be televised by Fox Sports 1.

“FOX Sports is honored to call Pearl Harbor home during this year’s commemoration, an extremely fitting location to show our respect to the men and women of our nation’s armed forces, past and present,” said FOX Sports President and COO Eric Shanks. “We appreciate the military's cooperation with this endeavor, and we hope to return to Pearl Harbor in 2016 to pay solemn tribute on the 75th Anniversary.”

Leading off on Friday, Dec. 4, MLB on FOX game analyst Harold Reynolds teams with a contingent of baseball superstars, including Kansas City Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie, Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, Boston Red Sox outfielder and native Hawaiian Shane Victorino to host a clinic for children at a local school, followed a day later by a similar event at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for children of active military personnel. The baseball stars also plan to visit a local children’s hospital and wounded warriors at the base hospital.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, FOX Sports 1 uses a set on the bow of the Battleship Missouri Memorial as home base for the day’s studio programming. Event programming that day includes college basketball and FOX broadcast network’s evening presentation of the Big

EYBL Minneapolis Day 1

Most impressive prospects in order:

1) D.J. Harvey - Team Takeover (DeMatha)
2) Lonnie Walker - Team Final (Reading High)
3) Lamar Stevens - Team Final

Prospects I Wasn't Overly Impressed With:

1) V.J. King
2) Tone Carr

Harvey - what a great blend of talent he is. Long arms. Very very good athlete. High riser on his jump shot. He rarely forced anything on offense. Good enough handle where you have to respect it. Was great on the top of Takeover's 1-3-1 zone that really caused problems. He would be deadly on top of the 1-2-2 3/4 court press Jay likes to use.

Very good rebounder. As far as our style of play, I think he'd play the Sumpter type 4. He would be a havoc defensively. Big time defender. I'd give my first born child to get Harvey :) definite all around talent and would impact the game in many ways.

Walker - showed quite a bit of diversity in his game. Had a couple catch and shoot 3's. One off a down screen. Had a behind the back pass in transition for a teammate layup. Tall for a wing. Lonnie passes the eye test. Athletic. Decent handle but could be tighter. Pure stroke from the outside. Could have taken a 3 but made the extra pass which led to a Tone Carr 3 pointer. Good shovel pass on the fast break for a teammate lay up. I thought he showed a pretty high IQ. He had a couple loose turnovers that were unforced. A bad one was at the end of the game when all Team Final had to do was run the clock out and get fouled.

Had a few tough acrobatic finishes at the rim. Had a pretty glide to the basket and slid to his right to avoid the charge and get the lay up. Monster block off the glass.

Bottom line I LOVE Walker's potential and I'd be psyched if he came to the main line. He has to play harder especially off the ball on the defense end. He was subbed out for offense-defense the last several minutes of regulation. But he looks like a top 50 prospect to me.

Stevens - Physically he looks the part. Thick kid physically. I'm surprised he misses so many free throws. He showed a decent stroke from the line. Always attack attack attack off the bounce. Loves going right in the post and finishing over the left shoulder. I'd like to see a power drop step into the middle of the lane to keep the defense honest. Not much lift inside and struggled in the first half. Lot of blocked attempts. Had a nice thread the needle bounce pass to Walker on the fast break for a lay up.

Lamar came alive in the second half. Getting after it on the offensive glass. Body contact and a finish. Some great finishes around the rim. He definitely loves contact. At the same time he missed several bunnies inside. I'm still lukewarm on Stevens. He's got a unique skill set that he brings to the table. A few things you can't question are his motor and his ability and willingness to attack and mix it up. Do we really need that kind of player who lacks a reliable jumper on this constructed team?

I wouldn't be crushed if Stevens went elsewhere but if he came to the main line, I think he would be productive. I trust the staff but its a tough call.
