Let the criticism begin. Should the Wildcats have been a 1-seed? Is Villanova vastly overrated? Are the Cats basketball’s Buffalo Bills, good in the regular season and a postseason flameout? Those are all fair questions, and all certain to be asked after what can only go down as an epic disaster of a loss for the Wildcats. Six years ago Villanova made it to the Final Four. March has been a mess for the Cats ever since, with five consecutive first-weekend exits.

In 1955 we played the Wolfpack twice coached by Everett Case. I think they were ranked 4th in the NCAA. We won 91-78 at the Palestra and 107- 96 at NCState, I think Cole Field House. Bob Schafer was our star shooter. Bob was the first VU 2,000 point shooter. His fellow senior, Jack Devine was an excellent rebounder.

Hurt more than anything in my opinion. He's our best rebounder. Could've turned everything around.

Did anyone DVR the game and double check the travel call that Corbett called on DO with 1:55 to go after an offensive rebound and which could have cut the lead to 3? Looked like a God awful call to me and it was a big one.

For the record, I thought the refs were putrid tonight.

Let's face it, for all the hating on the ACC from this board, it's time to admit that that league is putting in one of the best performances in memory so far. Might lose a game tomorrow (I think Louisville goes down), but the top of the ACC is really, really good. In the end Kentucky will win it all, but the ACC is going to win the recognition as the best conference in the country, hands down. The new Big East is 0-2 so far - we made some progress but we're still closer to the A-10 than the ACC. Maybe next year...

Not even sure what to say. Very much like the ODu feeling and it's pretty devastating. Lost In all the anger and frustration, I do want to recognize what a great season that we had. Just BC we are angry about tonight, saying it was awful, questioning jay and so on, I think we have all been pretty respectful, and there is no reason not to be. They are all great kids On this team and had a great reg season. Jay runs a classy program. At this point it's more a monkey on our backs than anything else and don't know what the answer is except we will give it a try next year. Jays deer in headlights set the tone for the team and that has to change in tourney play. Easier said than done.

Down only two at half

This was not Wichita State Kentucky last year where haymakers were being exchanged and WSU just came up short. That team just ran into a buzz saw.

NC State did not play out of its mind. Solid, sure. But we simply didn't step into the ring. For the second straight year, we got punked. Tired of hearing about size. It is as much about attitude.

Five minutes into the game and all it took was a couple missed bunnies to make us play completely out of character.

As some mentioned on the board, Jay seemed in a haze in the halftime interview. Very strange how he has struggled in March as his first few teams at Nova in the tourney really played well. He has shown he can do it.

I have no problem losing playing our game. But that simply has not been the case.

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm having a great time with March Madness. Last night I was at Gramercy Ale House and did plenty of celebrating after.

But I saw some stats which basically confirms that the NBA is just as good if not better than ever (IMO) and wanted to get some feedback. See the link:

Basically, if you look at Offensive Rating (points scored per 100 posessions) league wide over the years, defense is actually tougher now than it was in the 90s. The early 2000s were actually the peak of defensive play. I bring this up because of the constant claims that Jordan had it harder and would somehow score more points today even though the numbers strongly disagree with that. Just because guys were more physical doesn't mean they were superior defenders. You can be much more effective on defense by knowing which shoulder a post player prefers to turn towards than being a goon who just bruises you.

Another interesting state is the changes in FG% vs. eFG%. eFG% basically takes into account that 3 pointers are worth 50% more and assigns them the proper value in terms of cost/benefit. FG% has decreased over the past 20 years but eFG% has been generally higher over the past 7-8 years (when the NBA started to become good again imo).

3 Point Attempts per game by team increased from 2.3 in 1982, to 9.9 in 1994, and then made a huge jump to 15.5 in 1995, and then essentially leveled out until (once again 7-8 years ago when NBA started to become good again) 2007-08 when it rose to 18.1 and has increased since to 22.4 this year. Basically, teams are playing better defense than they have in 35 years, but players who are able to get open looks (through impressive ball movement typically) are more efficient than ever before and doing it from the spots on the court that capitalize upon these opportunities the most.


You can definitely see that Nova has drawn inspiration from Golden State. I know Barkley said Atlanta, but I think he was saying that as a reflection of the lack of household names. Barkley also watches more highlights than games it seems. We are definitely more GSW. Constant ball motion, stifling D, and a coach who brings out the best in his guys.

The big east will he bashed and trashed all next year with nobody watching and we have done everything we can to help the mid major label. Really gets me discouraged.

To be the big fish in a little pond has amounted to two early exits, and when butler goes down to ND in about two hrs, that will leave X.....who was gifted by a lower then mid major pulling an upset in the first round, less they would be gone as well........

Anyone who watched us tonight knew it, the guys played tight for 40 minutes. They were playing not to lose.

I've been thinking about this second tourney game game all season long, and how we just needed to get over the hump. My question is, how do you avoid that frame of mind? The tightness? Is it preparation? Is it on the coaches? Is it on the individual players?

My daughter's team won the Connecticut Class M Girls Basketball State Championship today at Mohegan Sun. They caught on fire the five games in the tournament and won some games they easily could have lost. Nova wins 16 straight including the BET.

Life isn't that good - came down crashing today.

Sun will come up tomorrow. Coaching my little one in the finals of the Connecticut Hoopfest and the madness starts again. Life goes on and we all do our things tomorrow - pain is severe, but we won the BET and have two studs fueling the next generation of our program in Jalen and Spellman...

Don't listen to the pundits - all three on CBS picked Nova - Kellogg, Barkley and Kenny - tonight and all were wrong. They know as much as we do - or less. We blew layups early. They played very tough. We got knocked off our horse a bit. It happens.

This team entertained us for four amazing months. It all came crashing down today. Jalen joins the party in 2 months and the beat goes on!

Lousy as we feel,I can't imagine what the kids are going through.

Hilliard was lost for much of the second half but damn did he try to put us on his back. Really going to miss this guy. I honestly did not expect him to turn out to be as great of a player that he did. Good luck to him and Pinky with their futures.
