What nobody is talking about

A Mormon as President. There is still a very real bias and dislike in many Christian religious groups with regards to the Mormon church. I came across a thread in Facebook the other day where a number of people were discussing how they and others they know are doing write-ins due to their refusal to support a Mormon.

Syria

Didnt Romney call for throwing a bunch of arms and support to the rebellion en masse where Obama said we need to figure out WHO in the rebellion we can actually trust first? Now here is Al Qaida joining the rebellion...wouldn't it be great if we gave a bunch of weapons to Al Qaida supporters?

T&F Recruiting Target for 2013: LaSalle HS's Tom Coyle

I have it on good authority that Marcus O'S is interested in LaSalle high school junior Tom Coyle, who just won the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships 1 mile and 3200 meter double (see results below). LaSalle is the same school that produced current red-shirting team member Tom Trainer (and is the same high school that produced Tom Donnelly back in the 1960s). Coyle is coached at LaSalle by former Haverford runner Greg Bielecki, and by all accounts Coyle is interested in Villanova as well. Someone to keep an eye on for fall 2013 perhaps.

As Goes Ohio...

Reading all the latest polling data, it seems as if Ohio, as in 2004, will ultimately decide the election. By 8 PM next Tuesday, we should know who will be President in 2013. If the President wins Ohio, which is more Republican than Wisconsin and Iowa, it will look very bleak for Governor Romney.

Politico's sampling of the RCP Data gives the President 237 to start with and the Governor 191. By now, let's assume the three early Swing States of Florida, North Carolina and Virginia all go Red. That would give Romney 248. And NH could give him 252.

So when Ohio closes, those 18 votes would give the Governor 270.

But given what we know about Iowa and Wisconsin, if Ohio goes Blue, then most likely Iowa and Wisconsin go Blue as well. Those three states would give the President 271 electoral college votes.

I know the flash polling on Drudge today shows a tie in Wisconsin, but the fact that neither candidate is there makes me believe the internal numbers for Romney aren't good there.

Libya Again

Am I nuts to think this is a major problem. The Situation Room at the White House and the State Departments had e-mails within two hours that contradict most of what they have said to this point. Am I nuts (for this reason, not other posts held against me here....). This looks like gross incompetance or flat out lying. The State Department now has a guy who came out and said he was smacked down for calling it a terrorist attack early on. I don't understand why this isn't a bigger story.

Brother Colm O'Connell

VU has a strong association with Ireland. And I think some here are hopeful that another outstanding scholar-athlete will be coming from Ireland to VU. Recall Mageean and English. There are two others for 2013, but that is another post. Some also know about the work of the legendary Brother Colm O'Connell and his achievements in the Rift Valley of Kenya. Think of David Rudisha. Recall Marcus' visit to Kenya, several years ago. I believe he spent time with Brother Colm. Unfortunately, I do not believe any Kenyan athletes have come to VU as a result. I know of at least one who Marcus had targeted, but he chose to go pro (Austine Choge). The link takes you to Brother Colm speaking to junior Irish athletes. David Rudisha is there, but he does not speak

Connecticut Senate Race

Not sure if anyone lives in Connecticut or is enough of a loser as I am to have listened to the debate last night.

I don't know if the polls are still as close on this one between Congressman Murphy and Linda McMahon but it was frightening how much more polished and prepared the Congressman was last night. Similar to Romney-Obama 1.

Similar to how the Governor knew all of the President's talking points better than the President himself did, Murphy nailed McMahon on the issue of Tax Cut/Credits leading to jobs.

McMahon noted that in 1999, their company received a $20 Million Tax Credit from the State of Connecticut. She contended that they created jobs with that. Murphy had pulled the records on WWE and found that in the same year this Credit was received, they had cut, net net, over 100 jobs. McMahon made a $40 Million salary that year.

I'm surprised that liberals don't take this tact more often. If the contention is that tax credits save or create jobs, prove it. As an employee of a company that has fleeced Connecticut myself, I think all it does is bribe companies to stay where they are.

VP Debate Question

OK, because I'm an odd fellow, THIS is the question I came away with after last night's VP debate:

At the very end, Ryan stands up to shake Biden's hand. As he does so, he reaches his left hand into his pants pocket, extracts something small and pops it into his mouth.

I need to know what it is that Ryan a) thought to put in his pocket prior to the debate and b) needed at that very moment. Was it:

a) aspirin?

b) unwrapped bubble gum?

c) unwrapped mint?

d) salt tablet for hydration?

e) PED?

f) Other?

Check out the video...it's at the 1:30:51 mark.

pre- nat results

men were 8th at pre-nats. Mildenhall was in first at 32. McEntee was not one of the six men who finished the race for Nova. Don't know if he started and was DNF or just did not run for some reason. Denault was the second in (53) and Williamsz (57) was third followed by Kane (66). There was a big gap back to Basili at 131 and the sixth man Morrin close behind (134).

Women 7th with a great race by Lipari (7) according the run nova's tweet.
