Mt. Sac Meet

Congrats to Sheila Reid on a blistering fast 1500M last friday out at Mt. Sac. Her 4:11 is 5 sec. faster than any other collegiate 1500 up to this point. Only runner she couldn't beat was Shalene Flanagan, who is pretty darn tough.

Interesting results in the 5K too. Shippensburg's Neely Spence beat Jordan Hasay. Too bad that Spence is tied to at the hip to her dad, who is also a pretty good guy so I can't be too critical. She would have been a serious stud for us. She also beat Mimic by 15 sec. in the same race.

VU Recruit Tom Trainer Anchors USA #8 DMR

LaSalle College High School ran a US#8 (it was #1 at that time) time of 10:18.28 to win the distance medley relay at Coatesville meet. DMR was anchored by Tom Trainer, a Villanova commit for the fall.

Penn Relays - Women's 4x1600

Penn Relays is four weeks away. Interesting to contemplate the 4x1600 for women. Or is it 4x1500? Reid, Mimic and Lipari will make-up three of the legs. Who is the fourth - Callie Hogan, Alison Smith, Amanda Marino or even Kelly McElroy or Summer Cook? I don't believe Sarah Morrison will be a factor.

They came close, last year, with arguably a stronger team. Wright of Tenn ran a very smart anchor to seal the win. Reid ran well but not smart on the anchor. You simply don't try to pass a runner like Wright on the turn. Hurt her. But I think Reid is a superior runner, this year, so it will be interesting.

Hogan of two years ago would be the choice, but this year ...?

Women have a good chance of winning two - DMR & 4x1600.

T&F Meet at Penn & Summer Cook

See link below for results of meet at Penn, Saturday.

Note the 3rd place in the women's 1500 is Summer Cook of Villanova at 4:35.64. Not a bad time. Who is she? She also ran in the 800. So-so time. Anyone know anything about her? Transfer? Frosh?

Callie Hogan won 1500. Maybe she is returning to form ...???

Meet at Penn Results

Penn Relay Tickets

I realize that tickets for people that are renewing go out earlier, but this is my first year I have ordered reserved tickets. My American Express card has already been charged, or should I make a call to Penn. But I was told that tickets my tickets would be spent early in April. Am I still in the early April according to Penn. I had to get reserved tickets for two reasons; the first is that I just had my seventy fifty birth day, the second is that I have had some surgeries and skin grafts that would make long walks up those steps hard.

Sebastianic, I liked your analysis, and we could grab two on the Ladycats' side. Any word on Fitzsimmons?

Mighty Macs Movie delayed again

The Immaculata Mighty Macs movie was set to debut nationally on the weekend of the final four but has been delayed once again, apparently until October for no reason given other than to "coincide with the 40 year anniversary of thier first national championship". The red carpet premiere is still set to go on March 28th here in Philly however.

The trailers for the movie look cool, with lots of cameos by former coaches, players and other locals. Not sure how Tony Luke makes it in there other than he probably provided free food.

Non-athletic LadyCats

I probably have seen as many basketball games as anyone on these boards simply because I am older. But without equivocation, our LadyCats which I saw yesterday on TV have absolutely no athletes. I guess Cane and Sweeney have talent, but they are not going to dazzle anyone with their quickness or athleticism. This was the first time I have seen them this year, and we should have won. But we have no athletes. The accolades about their GPAs and decorum are well deserved, But Harry who recruited these players simply can't compete with so many non-athletic players.

Telling Quote from Harry

Harry's comment to Mel Greenberg after the St. John's game from Mel's blog.

Perretta talked about needing more players to throw into the guard spot.

“We’ll know next year ? if we don’t show improvement, I hate to say it but maybe this group of kids aren’t good enough to get it done in the Big East.”

Ouch.

End of season

Looking at stats. Louisville 49 shots, 29 were threes. Providence less than half were threes. Went to the line more at providence. Unless you take the ball to the hoop to keep the other team honest, its harder and harder to set up the threes. Not much else to say. There is no defense to the state of the program and it starts at the top. Geno makes a comment as to how Georgetown and St. Johns have turned it around. Its not impossible. I will still go to a few games a year. Too bad Lent didn't start early, I could have made it part of my penance.
