Saddiq Bey To Visit Nova

Per 247 Sports' Evan Daniels, four-star 2018 wing Saddiq Bey has scheduled a visit to Villanova. The Nova visit comes on the heels of Bey's visit to Vanderbilt.

Out of Sidwell Friends in Washington, DC, Bey was originally a NC State commit, but was granted a full release last month. In his initial recruitment, he also attracted interest from schools like Virginia, Stanford, Florida, Georgetown, Miami, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. While he was on Villanova's radar, he never received an offer.

But now it looks like Bey could very well end up a Wildcat. Strengthening Nova's case today was a ruling denying Bey a waiver to be able to play in the ACC in 2018-19, effectively eliminating Boston College, Pitt, and Wake Forest. It appears to be a Vanderbilt and Villanova race at this point, and if you're a crystal ball kind of person you have to like what you're seeing as Nova has received a flurry of picks today.

At 6-6/6-7 with long arms, it's easy to envision Bey operating in the Villanova system. The addition of Bey could help to ease the loss of Mikal Bridges. While Bey obviously wouldn't step in and be Bridges right away, the similarities are there and it's reasonable to conclude that Bey is further along offensively than Bridges was at this point in his development.

Something else to keep an eye on as we move through the summer. Here's some video of Bey.

Scottie Lewis Cuts List To 7

On the heels of today's earlier update on Scottie Lewis, the five-star prospect cut his list to seven schools Thursday night, and Villanova made the cut.

Joining Villanova are Duke, Florida, Harvard, Kentucky, Stanford and St. John's.

Don't expect much movement in Lewis' recruitment over the next few months. In between summer circuit responsibilities Lewis wants to take some unofficial visits before deciding where he will take his five official visits. That being said, it's great that Nova is still in the mix.

Couple Updates From Rivals' National Crew

We have a couple of Nova-related updates today from Rivals' group of national reporters.

First, Corey Evans has the latest on 2019 five-star guard Scottie Lewis, including a comment on Villanova.

Expect Reid Travis To Visit Nova

Jon Rothstein reports that Stanford graduate transfer Reid Travis will visit Villanova and Kentucky following his graduation from Stanford on June 17.

Travis is considered the top remaining grad transfer on the market following consecutive All Pac-12 Team selections. He averaged 19.5 points and 8.7 rebounds last season.

Landing Travis would be a huge boost for Nova, helping to ease the loss of Omari Spellman as the Cats await the progression of Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree and Dylan Painter and the arrival of four-star big man Eric Dixon in 2019. Despite a differing skill set from Spellman, Travis would pair well with Eric Paschall to give the Cats a formidable, experienced duo in the frontcourt that can be counted on immediately. At the same time, it would ease some of the pressure on young, developing players like Cosby-Roundtree and Painter and incoming freshman Cole Swider.

Travis has long been connected to Kentucky, but the departure of Spellman may have created the perfect storm for Nova to snatch Travis from those other Wildcats.

Kentucky's frontcourt is much more crowded, while there are clearly significant minutes there for the taking at Villanova.

Furthermore, after pulling his name from the NBA draft, Travis has noted that he wanted to work on his outside shot. You may remember that Villanova just broke the record for threes made in a season, and big men like Spellman and Paschall played a role in that accomplishment. Villanova has become known for giving its players the green light, and have proven that it understands the value of bigs who can shoot and stretch the floor. If that is something that Travis wishes to improve on and have the opportunity to do, Villanova is the perfect place to do so.

While this could still go either way, it's hard not to feel that Nova is gaining momentum. Expect dates of visits and a decision to come fairly rapidly after graduation.

Justin Moore Makes Final 18 At USA Basketball Tryouts

Nova commit Justin Moore acquitted himself well at the USA Basketball U18 tryouts last week, and was rewarded with a spot in the final 18 after the field was whittled down from the 33 players who attended the camp.

Moore will now try to secure a spot on the final roster of 12, which will be announced this week ahead of the team's departure for the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The Championship will be held from June 10-16, with the top four teams qualifying for the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup.

In addition to Moore, Nova targets Cole Anthony, Jalen Lecque, and Armando Bacot also made the final 18.

Nico Mannion Drops Top 10

Four-star 2020 point guard Nico Mannion has narrowed his list to 10 schools. He made the announcement on his Twitter. Joining Villanova on the list are Arizona, Marquette, USC, Vanderbilt, UCLA, Utah, Oregon, Duke, and Kansas.

Mannion has also discussed the possibility of reclassifying into the class of 2019, so that is something else to keep an eye on as his recruitment progresses.

Currently ranked No. 26 in the Rivals 150, it's easy to envision Mannion thriving in the Villanova system. He's a complete lead guard capable of finding his own shot or creating for teammates. He's got an excellent shot to go with excellent athleticism.

Between the Italian heritage, the red hair, and the range and athleticism, it's hard not to see a bit of Donte DiVincenzo in Mannion, although Mannion has a more refined passing game. See for yourself.

Isaiah Stewart Cuts List To 10

Five-star, 10th ranked 2019 forward Isaiah Stewart has cut his list of schools to 10, with Villanova making the cut. Joining the Wildcats in consideration are Duke, Michigan State, Indiana, Louisville, Texas, Syracuse, Washington, Georgetown and Notre Dame.

Stewart told Rivals' Corey Evans that he expects to make another cut in late July or August, at which point he will begin to set up official visits.

You can read Evans' full article here.

Duke is the early favorite, but there is plenty of time for things to change.

Update On 2020 Forward Lance Ware With Nova Comment

Lance Ware, a 6'8" forward out of Life Center Academy in New Jersey recently discussed his recruitment with Rivals' Corey Evans and mentioned Nova as one of a handful of programs that have been in touch. Ware is currently ranked 53rd in the 2020 Rivals 150. In addition to his thoughts on the program, he gave a nod to Nova fans.

Malik Hall Eyeing Nova Visit

6-7 wing Malik Hall, out of Wichita, Kansas, is looking to visit Villanova, he told Evan Daniels of 247 Sports.

“I got Oregon locked in for sure for an unofficial,” Hall said when asked about upcoming trips. “That should be the 31st. Then I’ll probably go down to Villanova, Texas and then Louisville probably. Those are probably the ones I’m focused on to get out there.”

Hall, ranked 49 in the latest 2019 Rivals 150, picked up a Nova offer last month. He's already been to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

Getting a visit from Hall would be huge, especially because he's so far from Villanova's normal recruiting area. You can read our short blurb on Hall from our recruiting update here.

DiVincenzo To Return To School?

By all accounts Donte DiVincenzo had an excellent showing at the NBA Combine, with the consensus being that he helped himself as much as any prospect that participated. ESPN's Jay Bilas listed DiVincenzo's performance as the number one thing that stuck out to him during the combine.

With his stock already at an all-time high coming off his 31-point national championship game performance and Final Four MOP honors, he proceeded to show how he was able to achieve that performance at the combine while also answering some of the questions surrounding his game, notably on the defensive end. With DiVincenzo showing well at the combine and building off his late season buzz, one would believe that Donte would be in an NBA uniform next season. He is now listed as a first round pick in many mock drafts, and he has mentioned that distinction as the threshold he would base his decision on.

However, Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer is reporting that the majority of NBA executives he spoke to in Chicago expect DiVincenzo to return to Villanova. O'Connor cites the possibility of a Mikal Bridges-esque rise into the the lottery as a potential reason for Donte to play another year of college ball.

It's not hard to imagine Donte making that kind of leap. Should he return to school, he would be the lead man on a team with Final Four potential. He would have every opportunity to have an excellent statistical season, and there would be no shortage of eyeballs paying attention to his exploits.

By the end of Friday's action at the combine, it was becoming increasingly difficult to imagine DiVincenzo in a Villanova uniform next season. His stock was at an all-time high, and he had just completed two stellar days solidifying his status with excellent on-court play and even better showings in the testing of measurables. The eye test and the words of scouts and analysts all pointed to him heading to the NBA. And then there was the fact that Donte himself has stated that being assured as a first round selection was the measuring stick he was using to make his decision.

However, the execs that told O'Connor that they expect DiVincenzo to return to Villanova are the same ones offering feedback to the players, and are among the few people outside of each player's inner circle with real insight into what the players are thinking.

I still find it hard to believe that Donte won't take advantage of being a first round pick and the security that comes with it. In addition to that security, DiVincenzo would likely find himself in an ideal situation. He would likely be joining a playoff team with an established core, where he could step in and play a clear and defined role from day one as he adjusts and grows. That being said, O'Connor's report casts some doubt on the situation and provides a glimmer of hope to Nova Nation that Donte will be back to help the Cats defend their title. It will be interesting to watch as we approach the deadline for players to remove themselves from the draft on May 30.

Draft Combine Thread

The 2018 NBA Draft Combine is underway, with particular interest to Nova Nation as the eventual decisions of Donte DiVincenzo and Omari Spellman loom large over the the makeup of the Villanova roster for next year. We'll try to get more in-depth full articles posted over the next few days, but we'll also use this thread for quick-hitting updates.

ESPN's coverage is a bit fractured, jumping from live coverage of the scrimmages to talking heads to shots of different prospects doing individual tests, but we'll do the best we can to capture the Nova-relevant stuff.

Right off the bat, several minutes were dedicated to discussing Donte, with Jay Bilas listing him as his 29th best overall prospect. Donte was on the floor to start the first scrimmage for team white, while Omari Spellman has had to wait for some time on the court for team gray.

So far, in the bits of the scrimmage we have been able to see, Donte has clearly been focusing on showing that he will be a capable defender at the next level. He has been quiet on the offensive end early.

Again, the way ESPN has structured its coverage, it's hard to know how much we'll get to see of the Nova guys, but we will do our best to catch everything and update the happenings here as well as trying to glean enough information and observations to get some more in-depth content posted.

Rematch: Cats To Host Michigan In Gavitt Games

Another piece of the 2018-19 schedule has fallen into place, as it has been announced that Villanova will host Michigan in the Gavitt Tip-off Games. You may remember that the Wildcats defeated the Wolverines 79-62 to win their second national championship in three years back in April.

Villanova is 2-0 in the young history of this series pitting the Big East against the Big Ten, defeating Nebraska in 2015's inaugural games and Purdue in a classic in 2016.

While the rosters are likely to look a bit different than they did in April, a short turnaround from such a high-stakes game should make for a fun contest.

Details on the date and time have not been announced, but for now we know another 2018-19 opponent.

Some Nova Flavor In This Week's Rivals' Twitter Tuesday

Every Tuesday, Rivals' Eric Bossi takes some questions from his Twitter followers and this week there was a good amount of Nova discussion. Bossi addresses Nova options should Omari Spellman decide to stay in the NBA draft and also discusses the recruitment of elite 2019 guard Cole Anthony, who he expects the Cats to be involved with.
