Arch To Stay In the U.S. After All

It appears that Ryan Arcidiacono will be staying in the United States for the upcoming season. After signing a deal to play overseas in Italy, it now looks like Arch has used his time in the summer league to play his way into a two-way contract with the Bulls.

This appears to be an ideal situation for Arch, as he will now have the opportunity to continue to work on his game in the G League with the potential to get some time with a Bulls team that finds itself in a state of flux. Regardless of how he ends up splitting his time, Arch will be able to play in front of a lot more eyes with direct connections to the NBA.

Nova Makes Move, Offers 2018 PG Jalen Carey

Nova has made its first move of the July evaluation period, offering 2018 PG Jalen Carey out of Immaculate Conception in New Jersey. Carey is a four-star player who is currently ranked 50th in his class by Rivals. 247 Sports's Andrew Slater broke the news on twitter.

Carey excels at getting to the rim and possesses a nice stroke from the outside. He also has good size and length. Among his other notable offers are Arizona, Syracuse, Kansas, and Indiana.

It remains to be seen whether the offer is in reaction to the activity of other Nova targets or simply because the staff wanted to extend their look at him before offering (they have been following him for a while), but regardless it's easy to see how he could fit in in the program.

Here's some video of Carey in action.

After looking at Nova's relative inactivity on the recruiting front earlier this week, here we break down the four prospects holding offers that the Wildcats appear to be focusing on to round out the 2018 class. We look at their skill sets and what they could bring to the program, as well as where things stand in their recruitment.

Quinerly, Weaver Begin To Set Visits, Nova Waits

Arguably the two biggest fish remaining in Villanova's recruiting waters have begun to plan official visits.

Julius Kim of Elevate hoops reported Weaver's planned visits to Ohio State and Florida via his twitter...

Meanwhile, some semantics have led to a bit of a debate as to weather Quinerly's visits to Kansas and UCLA are certain with Adam Zagoria implying they are confirmed while Jeff Borzello of ESPN phrased it as "likely."

Regardless, the news represents steps forward in each players' recruitment as Nova waits for their own potential visits from Quinerly and Weaver. Despite the forward movement, it appears we are still a ways away from a commitment from either player.

Weekend Update: Summer League, Weaver Shines

Let's get caught up with the Nova tidbits form over the weekend.

Starting with the UAA Finals, Nova target Elijah Weaver had a stellar game on Friday after scuffling a bit through his team's first few games. Weaver led his team in scoring with 24 points on 9-17 shooting, 1-4 from three, and 5-6 from the line. He added two rebounds and two assists in leading Team Breakdown to a 72-59 victory. It was Weaver's best performance of the tournament.

Meanwhile in NBA Summer League action, Arch carried the torch for Nova players on Friday with a standout game. He scored 16 points on 6-9 shooting and 3-4 from three, adding in eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.

It was a quiet night for the trio of former Wildcats playing for the Wizards. Daniel Ochefu had just two points, five rebounds, and one assist in 15 minutes of action. Kris Jenkins managed one assist and one rebound in nine minutes. And Maalik Wayns notched an assist in just three minutes of play.

James Bell struggled for the Clippers, scoring three points on 1-7 shooting and 0-4 from three. He added four rebounds and two steals. It was also announced that Bell will be joining a Turkish team for the upcoming season after playing in Israel last season.

Josh Hart continues to rest a turned ankle and did not play for the Lakers.

Selection Committee To Place Greater Emphasis On Road Games

The NCAA Selection Committee has tweaked it's process for reviewing teams for NCAA Tournament selection and seeding to place a greater emphasis on road games. They are also exploring ways to incorporate new metrics like KenPom, Sagarin, KPI, and BPI. While the committee has access to those metrics, it is looking at ways to incorporate them mathematically to supplement the current RPI rankings.

Quinerly's Day At UAA Finals

Much like Elijah Weaver earlier this afternoon, Jahvon Quinerly had a bit of a mixed day in Sports U's sloppy performance against Team Charlotte. Quinerly scored 13 points on 4-11 shooting, 0-4 from three, and 5-9 from the line. He did have two made threes wiped out by foul calls. He added four assists and three rebounds.

Shooting was the biggest issue for Quinerly on Thursday, although if those two threes had counted his day suddenly looks a whole lot better. While the two made threes didn't count, they showed that the range is there.

On the positive side, he again displayed the ability to get to the rim at will and to draw fouls. He also showcased his excellent vision once again. During one sequence Quinerly delivered a perfect high-low pass to Naz Reid, demonstrating excellent touch, before causing a turnover on the defensive end and starting the break with a nifty pass to a teammate on the outlet.

While the stat line doesn't jump out at you, Quinerly, along with teammate Naz Reid and Team Charlotte's Devon Dotson, clearly showed themselves to be on another level.

Weaver Improves At Day Two Of UAA Finals

After playing Robin to Anfernee Simons' Batman on the opening night of the UAA finals, Nova target Elijah Weaver was much more an equal co-star on Thursday afternoon with an improved performance. After a hot start, it looked as though Weaver might take on the lead role for Team Breakdown for the day, and despite cooling down, he still had a productive day.

Weaver began the day by hitting three of his first four shot attempts, but after cooling down a bit he finished 5-14 from the floor, 1-5 from three, and 5-7 from the line. He scored 16 points to go along with five steals, three rebounds, and an assist.

After shooting just 1-7 from the floor and 4-9 from the line in Wednesday's opener, Weaver was still struggling with his shot on Thursday, although he improved, particularly from the foul line. His 3-4 start showed that the shooting touch is there, even if he is struggling to find it at the moment. Most impressive on Thursday was his ability to be disruptive on the defensive end, as his five steals demonstrates.

Jahvon Quinerly will be in action later this afternoon.

Quinerly, Weaver Square Off At UAA Finals

The two remaining priorities for Nova's 2018 recruiting class went head to head on Wednesday night as Jahvon Quinerly's Sports U took on Elijah Weaver's Team Breakdown. Unfortunately, the stream of the game I was watching cut out in the 4th quarter, with Weaver's Team Breakdown holding a big lead thanks to a strong second half.

Weaver had struggled mightily to the point the stream cut out, shooting 1-7 from the floor and 4-9 from the free throw line for six points. He spent a large portion of the game playing off the ball. Team Breakdown didn't need Weaver to be on his A game as teammate and Louisville commit Anfernee Simons was in control.

Meanwhile Quinerly had 11 points, two assists, and a rebound when the stream cut out, spending stretches of the second half on the bench, perhaps saving his legs for the rest of the tournament as the game got out of hand. But while he was on the floor, his skills were on full display, He got to the rim at will and was adept at drawing fouls. He demonstrated an impressive range, as well as great vision.

Increasing the frustration of losing the stream is the fact that the UAA site hasn't archived the box score, but I plan on posting each player's final stats once I can verify them.

Summer League Update 7/12

Ochefu and Wayns once again started for the Wizards. Ochefu scored six points to go with five rebounds, two blocks, an assist, and a steal while shooting 3-4 from the field. He played 17 minutes. Wayns had two points, three assists, a steal and a rebound in 14 minutes. Kris Jenkins did not play.

Arch earned another start for the Bulls. In 31 minutes he scored seven points, dished three assists, grabbed two rebounds, and had a steal.

James Bell and the Clippers had the night off, while Josh Hart sat out the Lakers contest with the Sixers as he continues to nurse a turned ankle.

Summer League Update 7/11: One Game, Lots Of Nova Flavor

Four of the six Wildcats taking part in the summer league were in action in one game on Tuesday, as the Wizards took on the Bulls. Three of the four started the game (Arch, Ochefu, Wayns).

For the Bulls, Arch played 28 minutes, scoring two points to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

Meanwhile for the Wizards, Ochefu had nine points, 10 rebounds, two assists and a steal in 19 minutes. Maalik Wayns chipped in seven points, three assists, and two rebounds in in 22 minutes, but shot just 2-8 from the floor. Kris Jenkins had five points, three rebounds, and a block in 13 minutes.

Ochefu's nine points were good for third on the team, while his 10 boards where a team high. Wayns' three assists were a team high as well.

Summer League Update Monday 7/10

Kris Jenkins had five points and a rebound in 12 minutes of action. He shot 2-2 from the field and 1-1 from three. Daniel Ochefu had six points on 3-3 shooting, adding two rebounds, two blocks, and an assist. Maalik Wayns did not play.

Josh Hart was a DNP for the Lakers as he nursed an ankle injury.

Arch had four points, a rebound, and an assist in 19 minutes for the Bulls.

James Bell earned a start for the Clippers, scoring five points, grabbing two rebounds, and dishing an assist.

Tomorrow evening Arch and the Bulls will play Jenkins, Ochefu, Wayns and the Wizards at 6 PM on NBA TV.
