Elijah Weaver Update

Weaver recently spoke to Rivals' Eric Bossi to discuss a couple upcoming west coast visits. He also gave a comment on Villanova, when he could make another cut to his list and a couple teams he expects to make the cut, when he could be looking to make a decision, and some of the things he is prioritizing as he weighs his options.

Hubb Commits To Notre Dame

In a bit of a surprise, Notre Dame has landed top-50 G Prentiss Hubb. Maryland was considered a heavy favorite in Hubb's recruitment, with Nova in the mix. Hubb's commitment marks the first piece to fall into place in Nova's 2018 recruiting puzzle and is the first step towards gaining a clearer picture of the recruiting landscape. Stay tuned for some early analysis as things begin to heat up on the recruiting trail.

Tucker Picks Duke

Jordan Tucker, who was at one time considered a lock for either Indiana or Villanova. has committed to Duke. After delaying his decision, teams like Georgia Tech and Oregon joined the fray. A late push from the Blue Devils was enough to overcome another late entry from Syracuse.

Losing out on Tucker isn't particularly concerning or surprising. When he announced he was delaying his decision, which was expected in February, it was assumed to be bad news for the leading schools. Tucker is similar to Jermaine Samuels, and Rivals has Samuels (45th) ranked ahead of Tucker (68th), so Nova remains in good shape at the position. With Omari Spellman retaining freshman eligibility and essentially making Nova's 2017 class a four player group, it is probably for the best to have that scholarship open for the class of 2018.

If there is something we can take away from how Tucker's recruitment played out it's that you never know what can happen, and no matter how likely it appears a recruit will end up at a certain school, nothing can be taken for granted.

Villanova makes Top 8 for Cole Swider

The four-star SF also included Michigan, Syracuse, Miami, Indiana, Creighton, Xavier, Providence.

Swider was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Rhode Island last season and is one of the fastest rising prospects in the nation. He's definitely someone to keep an eye on going forward, especially after Villanova survived his cut. Sharpshooter with plenty of versatility and good size.

Jay Wright offered in February.

Penn Relays 2017

Penn Relays are essentially four weeks away. O’Sullivan is fond of viewing Villanova as the “home” team even though it is on Penn’s track. Sounds appropriate considering the success over the years. Recently there has been a mixture of exhilarating success – Women’s 4x1500 (2016), Men’s 4xmile (2015) – and disappointment – Men’s DMR (2016 – Williamsz had nothing on anchor), Men’s DMR (2015 – Williamsz kicked too soon), Men’s 4x800 (2015 – Slade totally blew a huge lead by going out way too fast). So if one is a regular attendee (we know Whitecat is), then one lives with these high and lows as well as friendly arguments with other regulars who pooh-pooh Villanova. This year, I believe women will be competitive in DMR, 4x1500 and 4x800. Looking forward to it. Men? I don’t have a clue. Thought they would only be competitive in 4x800. The weekend sort of reinforced the women. Men got a great boost with return of Ben Malone. Maybe they are now competitive in DMR? Next few weekends will reveal more. Major question: What happened to Ishmael Mohammad? He was Joe White’s (G’twn) equal in HS, but now …?

Interesting that SEC and Big 12 schools no longer attend. No Arkansas, no LSU, no Texas, no Florida …. That weekend, there is the Longhorn Invitational and SEC Relays. Rule: when you do not understand something, follow the dollar. Oregon and Stanford will be there. And surprising, Notre Dame is coming.
