Wednesday BE Games

Tonight there are two games in the BE - the last two prior to Saturday's five final games of the regular season.

Here are the match-ups:

8:30 PM SETON HALL at Butler Indianapolis, Ind. (FS1) (75-72 Butler (61% Butler Win))

9:00 PM CREIGHTON at Providence Providence, R.I. (CBS Sports Network) (73-70 Providence (62% Prov Win)

Seton Hall is playing to improve their seed for the NCAA Tournament - Butler is clinging to a bid right now and could use another quality win. Butler won at the Hall earlier in the season.

Creighton doesn't have much of a resume other than what they have accomplished in the BE schedule. A win over Providence would help them immensely. This team may look back and kick itself over that game at Georgetown that they pissed away down the stretch. If Creighton loses this game and @Xavier on Saturday they need to win the BET to get a bid. If they get a split, they may be able to sneak in by reaching the Finals or maybe the Semis of the BE depending on just how soft the bubble remains.

Isaiah Whitehead

I am very surprised by how little attention this kid is receiving. If I were to remove all bias I think he would get my vote as Big East Player of the Year.

Whitehead is averaging 17 points per game, and 5 assists. He has led a team with only a few other slightly above average players (Carrington, Rodrigues, Delgado) to a 20-7 record and a 3rd place Big East finish behind 2 of the best teams in the entire country. I've only watched a handful of Seton Hall games this year in full but vividly remember our complete inability to contain him especially down the stretch in our game at the Pavilion. He has really matured with his willingness to pass the ball as evidenced by his 5 assists per game and everyone already knows that he can score in a variety of ways.

depaul game presser quotes

Head coach Jay Wright opening statement:

“Very good win for us. I give Dave Leitao and DePaul a lot of credit. They came in here and played with confidence and shot the ball well. I thought we did a decent job defensively of getting turnovers. They hit some tough shots. I’m proud of our guys coming to play and being ready to play. It was a good win for us. I’m proud to win the BIG EAST championship.”

Wright on Kris Jenkins averaging 20 points a game over his last five games:

“He doesn’t pass. Kris always winds up being that guy the ball comes back to you. It’s not his job to pass. It’s his job to make shots. What he has really improved upon is making decisions of when to shoot it, drive it, and put it in the post. I think that is where he is right now. When you make those perfect decisions you shoot a high percentage. That’s what he is doing.”

Wright on Jenkins overall play:

“He’s a complete player. A lot of young guys like shooting three. We want him to be aggressive. We want him to work on his decision making and becoming a complete player. I think he is doing a great job of it. His teammates do a really good job of finding him.”

Jenkins on whether or not there has been a difference the last five games:

“There really is no difference. I think it’s just staying aggressive. My teammates do an unbelievable job of making the right plays. They do a great job of finding me.”

Jenkins on shooting the ball aggressively:

“We all have free range of making the right play. Making the right basketball play for our team not only on offensive but defense as well.”

Josh Hart on the team getting better:

“We’re just trying to focus on getting better every day. If we focus on that, at the end of season we’ll be the best team we can be. We just have to focus on getting better.”

Hart on winning the BIG EAST regular season title for three straight years:

“It has not hit me yet. Hopefully, it doesn’t hit me until the end of the year. I’m not trying to think about that personally. Obviously, that was one of the goals we set out at the beginning of the year. We achieved that goal, but we have more games left to play. We need to get a lot better defensively.”

@realDonaldTrump Twitter account?

is this real our next president's Twitter handle? It's a riot.

Lightweight Marco Rubio was working hard last night. The problem is, he is a choker, and once a choker, always a choker! Mr. Meltdown.

They don't like Rubio in Florida- he left them high & dry. Doesn't even show up for votes!

Lightweight choker Marco Rubio looks like a little boy on stage. Not presidential material!

Lying Ted Cruz and lightweight choker Marco Rubio teamed up last night in a last ditch effort to stop our great movement. They failed!

Why would the people of Florida vote for Marco Rubio when he defrauded them by agreeing to represent them as their Senator and then quit!

"@donell27743094: @realDonaldTrump trump won the debate. Disgusting Rubio said "peed" - is he still in junior high school."

FMR PRES of Mexico, Vicente Fox horribly used the F word when discussing the wall. He must apologize! If I did that there would be a uproar!

Early on Ted Cruz said that if he didn't win South Carolina, it's over. He didn't win- and lost to me in a landslide!

3rd Straight Title and #1 BET Seed ...

clinched by virtue of the X loss at SHU.

Things are set up perfectly where Arcidiacono, Ochefu and the Bench Mob can clinch the BE Reg Season championship out-right with a win over DePaul in the last Pavilion game of their career.

If the Cats sweep DePaul and Georgetown to close out the regular season they will tie the record for most regular season wins by a graduating class in the Big East with a 58-14 (.805) record - matching 1996 UConn team.

latest projected BET bracket

Villanova could play Georgetown in the last game of the regular season on Saturday and then turn around and face them the following Thuesday in the BE Quarters (should they beat DePaul in the opening game of the Tourney on Wed night). Keep in mind that Villanova has never won a game against the Hoyas in the history of the BET.
