OT - 529 Plans

First - apologies for such a random off topic thread.

I've noticed that a few of my fellow 'nova nationers have had children recently - I'm early thirties and I have a four month old.

I've started to research 529 plans and have talked to a few of my co-workers about this and am shocked how many of my contemporaries aren't interested or have decided that they won't start a 529 plan for their kids.

Am I missing something on this - has anyone looked at what states have the best plans - should i be considering some other alternative?

Appreciate any insight.

Pens

I remember a thread on here a while ago, started by ball, in which he extolled the virtues of the rollerball pen over the ballpoint. I made the switch, and just had to look back over some old notes that I wrote with a ballpoint. I don't think I even knew the difference before then.

The rollerball, to me, is such a far superior pen that it's not even funny. I'm not talking about nice ones either, just the uniball cheapo rollerballs. You have to push so much harder with the ballpoint and it totally ruins your handwriting.

One thing that I don't understand is the super-expensive pen that's not a fountain pen. Why would anyone use a $500 montblanc rollerball? Danmcguire?

Quick Question for a Lawyer

I moved into a new apartment in new york sept 1.

I was offered a lease, signed it, sent it back, paid rent, and have been living there since.
I was just told that the landlord never signed the lease on their end and it is therefore not valid.
Now they are rescinding the offer and want me out by October 31.

Can they do that? Just not sign their end and now its not valid a month in??

You Can't Always Get Want You Want- OT

My son, a 2002 graduate of Villanova and a die hard hoops fan, is a Special Agent with the USSS. He was the lead agent assigned to the Pope's overnight stay at St. Charles. Early last week he asked my wife and I if we had anything that we wanted the Pope to bless. A table was set up inside the seminary for the seminarians and employees of St. Charles to lay out items they would like blessed. My wife opted for a few pair of rosary beads while I wanted a few lottery tickets and the 2015 - 2016 Villanova schedule. My son thought my request was a little tacky. As a result, we now have some blessed rosaries, no winning tickets and no sure ticket to The Final Four. Somewhere along the way I failed as a father in teaching him the important things in life.

trying to be polite ...

Yesterday I played in a golf outing with a bunch of folks from work.
i was wearing a Villanova basketball polo.
The first time the beverage cart pulls up a guy in our foursome buys the first round and the girl working the cart starts handing out the beers.
She gets to me and says "your lucky I am going to give you this beer even though you are wearing that shirt".
I replied "what is wrong with wearing a Villanova shirt"
She says "I went to St. Joe's"
... even though my first inclination was to say something like "they offer a four year degree in golf beverage cart management?" I started saying "there is nothing wrong with going to St Joe's or Villanova" and
another guy in our foursome who didn't hear the beginning of the exchange said "whats the matter?"
and I followed by saying "for some reason St Joe's brainwashes their students from the time they are freshman to hate Villanova"
he said "c'mon with the Pope in town I would think the Jesuits could get along with the Auggies for at least a couple days"
