If you ever went to jail...

The Tim Donaghy jail thread got me thinking...what would you do to survive prison? Guess lots of variables at play here...is it a country club type place or a federal pound-me-in-the-ass penitentiary? Also depends on what kind of sentence you are looking at. Just doing a year or 2 or looking at life? I would think if you're a lifer you'd be open to losing your humanity a little more to stay alive.

Would you willingly become someone's bitch to survive? Join the Aryan brotherhood? Or just go the old school route and kick someone's ass much bigger than you on day 1 to send a message?

Mattresses

I need to do some mattress shopping this week for Dimer Jr. I recall in a previous Consumer Reports 4.6 thread that mattress prices are very flexible. Please share your advice.

Way OT: Any Villanova Ghost Stories?

My sophomore year I lived in Alumni, room 208, and my roommate and I came back to our room to find all the candles in the room lined up on the floor. We asked our RA if he had come into the room and he said no. The door was locked.

Another time, an unopened 20 oz bottle of Coke that was sitting on a desk started to shake. There was no windows open or anything else that could have caused this. My roommate and I both witnessed this. There were some other random things that happened but the bottle of Coca-Cola shaking was definitely the freakiest.

I know Alumni was at one time a Civil War hospital and this very well could be the reason for the activity.

Did anybody else ever have any experiences at Villanova or hear of anything paranormal happening?

The "Narrative"

Has anyone noticed that this word has crawled into our lexicon over the past year or so...to the point where it is used in virtually every conversation I hear on TV, radio, or podcast. Every single day I hear that word used now and I don't recall ever hearing it once the past 30 years.

It's like 1 person used it publicly, another person picked it up and re-used it to impress someone else..,and it took off like wildfire. Everyone keeps lifting it and trying to pass it off like it's been part of their vocabulary for years.

Everything's got have a narrative now...can't just have a storyline. Gotta have a narrative.

ESPN is the worst. Watch or listen to ESPN for a day. You'll hear the word "narrative" used repeatedly.

Dylann Roof

What we know so far:

21 years old

Confessed to killing 9 parishioners at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina

Captured in Shelby, North Carolina, on Thursday morning during a traffic stop

Was given a gun by his father as a 21st birthday present in April, his uncle told Reuters

Had two prior arrests this year, one for suboxone possession, and then again the following month for trespassing at the mall.

A friend alleged that Roof spent time ranting about racially-divisive incidents like the shooting of Trayvon Martin and the death of Freddie Gray.

"He said blacks were taking over the world. Someone needed to do something about it for the white race," Meek said. "He said he wanted segregation between whites and blacks. I said, 'That's not the way it should be.' But he kept talking about it."
