OT: Ty Johnson with the game winner

Some pretty wild finishes last night including the Ole Miss/South Carolina game. Ole' Miss was down three with about 12 seconds left and ran a play that ended up creating a similar shot to the one Hilliard hit against Butler. But South Carolina fouled the guy allowing him to complete the four point play and put Ole' Miss up one with 2.7 left. Ty Johnson goes down the court and is fouled shooting a desperation three (terrible, terrible play by the defender). He calmly hits all three for the win. Good to see the former Wildcat hit his free throws under pressure.

Cats get another crack tonight ...

... at the program record for longest winning streak in a season.
The record of 13 was reached three times - the start of the 1937-38 season, during the 1963-64 season, and the start of this season.
Two 13 game win streaks in one season is interesting but breaking the record would be better!
The longest win streak total is 15 - that was set across two seasons - the end of 1949-50 and the beginning of 1950-51.

Tomorrow should tell us alot

I honestly think our performance tomorrow will set the tone for not only a BET run but a NCAA run. Too often over the past several years we seem to have entered the BET very flat. We seem to have lost something from the end of the regular season to the BET.

We need to maintain the same level of play that we had for most of the season. The fact that we have been in the Top 10 for almost the entire season has meant that we have had a target on our back the entire season. I am hopefully that that, more then anything else will make us prepared for the pressure that comes with being a #1 seed in the BET and #1 or #2 seed in the NCAAs. 20 hours and we'll see!

Donte scores 30 again

Scored 30 with 7 boards in a semifinal win to bring Sallies to the championship game for the second year in a row. First time i've seen him play and it is just unbelievable that he's scoring 30 in these games. he's double and triple teamed every time he touches the ball and he finds a way to knock down shots and get through the lane. he hit a couple nba length 3's with two guys guarding him.

missed a couple free throws towards the end again but i think its mostly fatigue. he's playing the entire game, no rest and running all over the place looking for ball.

below is a link to his dunk early in the game.

Question

Ignoring the fact we deserve a #1 seed...would you rather us #1 in the west...with having to play Arizona in LA & them having a huge crowd advantage..or being #2 in east...playing in Syracuse against Duke or Virginia. I'm assuming here we have won the BE tourny...just got screwed in seeding...so we have momentum in both scenarios.

The unofficial commissioner of the Big East has yet another spot with the Sports Pope. Really easy to listen live to WFAN online - 101.9 FM in NYC.

The Pope had a good spot with Raftery just a little while ago. Both agreed that Villanova is one of the few teams in the country that has something of a shot at taking down mighty Kentucky. Raf praised the team's unselfishness and willingness to make the extra pass, and said Ochefu is key to our chances of advancing. Pope has known Raf for many years, and, while praising Raf's opportunity to announce the Final Four, said that Raf is probably the only guy in college basketball who doesn't have one enemy.

Arch was interviewed by Fox in the post-game, and Kevin O'Neill gave him major props for the way he handled the Sterling Gibbs incident. Amazing program leader.
