Belmont

Well the cost of the original bet is factored in to the payoff.

So the $2 exacta paying $13.50 means you clear $11.50

Not exactly a racing guy, but could his numbers also be tied to his competition? Watching on Saturday, it seemed like he was one of these rare horses that just had the ability to summon speed at will. Kind of like they used to say about Barbaro before the injury. Wondering if it mattered who his competition was - seemed like his rider toyed with the field in each race, especially the Belmont. Never even seemed to be challenged much - so wondering if he could have even been better than what we saw. Seemed like he had a lot in the tank at the end of all three of these races. What I loved about Saturday is that he left zero doubt. From the before the first turn, he was sending the message.

This -- I felt this way about every race he ran in the TC actually. AP had more left in each race if he needed it. The jockey didn't put his foot all the way down until it was clear that doing so would demolish everyone. No other horse ever took him out of his comfort zone. Was always more there so I don't get any attempt to discount what he achieved.

Just watched some guy analyze the race - pointed to a good amount of evidence that AP was barely working during the Belmont until Espinosa decided to make it emphatic - around the final turn or so. Said he ran like he knew he could do whatever he wanted whenever he was asked, and that against better horses, he would have been much better than his time suggests. Calm as can be and no hint of working very hard at all. Again, i only follow this stuff around this time of year but he seems pretty special to me.

He's no Secratariat but that video is unfair. Comparing him against the greatest race ever run by a horse. In a race where no one could even challenge AP so we don't know how great he could've been. He wasn't pushed. As has been said his best is probably even better than what we saw.

Beyer has been so off on this horse its comical. The guy has forgotten more about horse racing than I would ever know in 5 lifetimes but I get the sense that he is trying to justify his own poor handicapping of these races. He had the horse beat soundly in every race.. hated him. Before this last race I heard him say something to the effect that, "the breeding on his dam's side would get tired walking to the mailbox," and this horse has no shot at a mile and a half. Its one thing to say you can't bet him given the odds but Andy took it pretty far beyond that dismissing AP before each race.

Word that comes to mind watching AP is efficiency. NBC sports had some great "below the rail" footage of AP's strides and you could see his versus Frosted and some of the other horses. No shortening down that stretch like most horses at that distance. So little wasted motion in that stride... everyone has said it but its true, he just glides. Sure he has had "good trips" but he is a factor in those trips.

I sat at a table with one of Afleet Alex's owners (Brittingham) at the OTB during the Derby. After the race he told me AP wouldn't win the Preakness and had no shot in the Belmont. Super nice guy that I'm glad I didn't listen to.

Cruise was a long lost reference to taking a vacation with previous degen gambling winnings.
