What is the consensus on best cheesesteak joint in the CoP these days? Going to be in town for the first time in ages for Gtown game and am looking forward to enjoying some of this CoP delicacy.

Last time I checked, Villanova is still playing basketball.

Doctor_Van, just check the schedule. Plenty of games remain. Not sure why you are unwilling to accept this.

Bunch of comedians here as usual. Thought it was a given that it was the Villanova Gtown game, but clearly that's an issue. Was always a Pats guy in college but having had it sober as an adult it has lost a lot of its charm. Was just looking to see if the concensus was that Tony Luke's or some other less famous neighborhood joint was co directed the gold standard in 2016.

DRV, not sure which part of the city you're going to be in, but I'd go Tony Luke's over both Pat's/Geno's. Better yet, head around the corner from Luke's and try John's Roast Pork, located on Snyder Ave between Front/Columbus BLVD. I's even go Talk of the Town (Broad St. around Packer) and Phil's Steaks (Passyunk/23rd St) as better options. Campo's down town 2nd/Walnut area is good. Shank's at Pier 40 on Columbus BLVD (Not far from arena/John's Roast Pork) is another option.

I'd go John's. Not far from stadium. When you go in there are two lines, one for steaks and the other for pork/beef. Cash only, too.

are any of these places OK with your cardiologist?

Philly cheesesteaks are so overrated. I remember my orientation counselor wouldn't shut up for 4 days about how we all HAD to have a real Philly cheesesteak.

STFU. They taste the same in every city.

Curious. Could you list the cities that you had a Cheesesteak?

I like Steves Prince of Steaks too.

I hate you for starting this thread because I really am in the market for a new tv...

"Burrsie" is pretty spot on here, although I like Phil's the best of the places he mentioned. John's always wins the awards but I'm not really a fan, they do the chopped steak like Jim's and Campos, all good choices but not my preference. I like to go wiz with onions and I would go with Phil's, Tony Luke's, or Pat's. And Steve's prince of steaks is great, but I don't think they have one in South Philly.

Cheesesteaks are for tourists.

Roast pork sandwiches are for residents of the CoP.

I don't know way why anyone would get a cheesesteak when you can get a cheeseburger.

When I first got to nova and somebody asked if we wanted to go grab cheese steaks I thought it was a steak with cheese on it. I had no clue it was a sandwich. We always called them steak and cheese grinders or steak bombs.

Maybe ten years ago tony luc opened a NYC branch store in midtown west. It later became shorty's. I don't know if they are still around, but those roast pork sandwiches were great.

John's Roast Pork, per burrs, is your best option and right around corner from WFC. Steves is decent particularly as they have a center city option

Best cheese steak I have had outside of Philly was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Lived in southern California for awhile - worst cheese steaks on the planet.

There is a Shorty's on like 9th st that is solid.

Do you have to dress and act like a CoPer there?
I go with a friend who is a CoP'er (Non-Nova-typical CoP'ers hates Nova) through and through (However, he gave up on the Eagles when Rich Kotite was the head coach and hasn't looked back). Usually only CoP sports is on and it's a lot of denim and Flyers jerseys, I actually said since this is Philly bar I wasn't going to tip.
