Consensus

My mood last night was the same as tthat girl crying playing the flute. I thought going to sleep would ease the pain a little. It did not. Might have to do the butcha approach and YOLO 90s girls

1 wrong board

2. Program isn't broken. Played lousy last night and still had a chance to win. Stay the course. These knee jerk reactions/suggestions aren't the answer.

I disagree that we need to bulk up and get a bunch of big guys. The thought of going with multiple 6-7+ players brings fear of the burn offense and the Marcus Kennedy casiem drummond days. The 6-6 athletes with one big is nice because it creates flexibility. The guards generally rebound very well, so it's not a major concern. Not having hart in the first half hurt that aggressive guard rebounding yesterday.

Guess that is what I meant by the program not being broke. People suddenly want jay to abandon his style and become a big ten style in the paint coach. Not happening, nor should it.

I agree that this group of guards tend to be a collection of very good team players than elite guards. And that is going to help win a lot of games against teams ranked in the top 50, but is it good enough to beat top 15 teams? But what are you going to do? These are the guys we have. Jay did a great job with them.

The encouraging thing is that brunson and spellman may be getting us back in that elite level again.

Stay the course and keep creating good teams. Duke loses to Mercer and Lehigh and K doenst change a thing. Sure he has a million more FFs and NCs than Jay Wright, but Jay's doing it right. We'll break through some years and we'll have a few tough ones as well.

TJC was nice enough to post a great article on Phil Booth and his parents - really a good read. That's our boy. That's the kid we get. I'm fine with it. I dont have to hold my nose and root for a scum bag coach, and it seems likely he's not a transient coach either.

Definitely the toughest loss to stomach since ODU. Can't lie about that one. Not a shred of doubt about who runs this program. We're in great shape.

Jay did get a verbal from Omari Spellman, who is 6-8, 270 lbs. That was completely frustrating last night but Kansas and Virginia both lost as well, it happens. We are better than Xavier but they are in the Sweet 16. It's not good but one of these years, we will be back in the Final Four.

We lost to St Mary's as a two seed coming out of the 'old Big East'. We were as tested as any team on that night. Didnt mean much. We lost by a bucket to a team that played well, and had a shot to win. We didnt lose by 20 here. We picked them apart at times. We did a lot of good things on a night where we struggled shooting the basketball, nothing more. Again, had PLENTY of open looks, easy lay ups and shots we've made all years that had nothing to do with NCSU guards or size. Literally zero.
Had to do with good players missing shots. Went 19 for 61. We go 25 for 61, which is still terrible, we are talking aout Louisville right now - who does not scare me all that much.

At the risk of incurring your wrath, spg, I'll say that I've enjoyed this thread. Specifically, your posts.

What do you mean he was "nice enough?"

Also concur that this thread contains some of spg109876ers' finest work. Instant classic material.

1. Looking forward to 3 more years of Phil Booth brightsiding.
2. I don't see any other coach winning 33 games with this roster.
3. The future is BRIIIIIGHT with Donte D, Tim, Brunson and Spellman in the pipeline.
4. I enjoyed the hell out of watching this team b*tchslap just about everyone for 3 months.
5. Sometimes the shots just don't fall, fellas.

I don't think we need to completely overhaul our non-conference schedule. I don't think we need major personnel changes. I don't think Jay needs to change his philosophy.

We lost because we didn't play well.

We were tight as a drum. It happens and it sucks. Saturday night was tough. Sunday morning I was on my way to the airport and nearly cried. However, I knew it a basketball game and when I got home my wife and kids would be there to greet me. Onto next season. However, I think these failures/pressure will build even higher. We must get this monkey off our back. We need a 2nd weekend.

You could tell how tight they were. Need to do something about it.

Also, I cannot stand the guys who say things like, "I don't want to play AZ or UK". I am pretty sure everyone on this board would love to play AZ/UK. Means that its a Final 4 or NC game.

The one thing we really could not cite here is the bracket. We did pretty well there. Not at all buying this was some kind of match up problem. You have to play someone and playing a 13 loss team in the second round is utterly acceptable in any year, coming from any conference.

BTW I would be quietly very confident if we were preparing for L'ville + MSU game winner this week.
