Can someone give me a quick explanation of betting across the numbers? I think it's something like $52 across? I can't find any useful info on this anywhere.

At most casinos
PLACE BETS
The 4 and 10 pay 9-5, true odds 10-5, yielding a house edge of 6.66%. The 5 and 9 pay 7-5, true odds are 7.5-5 (house edge 4%). The 6 and 8 pay 7-6, true odds are 6-5 (house edge 1.51%.

BUY BETS
Player pays a 5% vig to get true odds on all numbers. Only the 4 and 10 make buy bets worthwhile. They reduce the house edge to 4.76%

Therefore, for 4/5/9/10 your bet needs to be divisible by 5, and 6/8 divisible by 6. At a $10 table, the least you can bet is $10 on 4,5,9,10 and $12 on 6,8. So $64 to bet across the board. Many people who want multiple numbers bet 6/8 or "inside" which is 5,6,8,9.

Yeah I understand all that. I usually play pass line with odds and then 2 come bets with odds. I also will place on 6 and 8 and buy on 4 and 10 occasionally.

I just am fuzzy on the what the point of buy across is. Do you make the bet before the initial come out roll or once the point is established? Can you also place/buy on the point?

You can place/buy anytime. When you buy, you pay the vig up front and they only put down the base amount with a "buy" chip on top.

You have the option of having your place/buy "working" when there isn't a point established but it is typically off until there's a point. I think it's a bad play to let it work on coming out rolls because you end up betting against yourself coming out Pass bets. If the shooter rolls a 7 then you lose your place and win the pass.

Download the "Craps Deluxe" app on iPhone/iPad. You can play around with strategy and it gives you some good tips on specific bets. Like in real life, I've built and lost "fortunes" playing that game.

you can literally type "craps buy across" into your search bar at the top of your screen and get results faster than asking us on the newsgroup. I found this in less time than it takes to write this response or for you to write your initial question.

You don't think I did that?
I can't find any useful info on this anywhere.
Why don't you summarize that article for me, big man.

Good stuff HereComeTheCats. Craps is by far the best game in a casino. It is the most entertaining and it's basically the only game in the casino where you can get paid out true odds. I very rarely play anything else except for fun. When I want to do some serious gambling that is the only thing I'm playing. If it's a hot table I can easily spend 5-6 hours without leaving the table even to piss.

To me, the more you can put on the odds the closer you get to getting paid out true odds so I always look for a table with the lowest minimum & the highest odds. No sense in putting more money on the pass line when you can put the same money on odds and get a true pay out for your risk. I remember I was in Biloxi, Mississippi years ago driving home from a week long bender in New Orleans & they had a table that had a $0.25 minimum along with 100 times odds. I was shocked. Spent the next 9 hours or so at the table instead of driving home.

Once I have my pass line bet then I place a come bet with odds. If the point is hit, I usually work in a second come bet. If two more points in a row are hit I might work in a third come bet. I rarely do place bets unless a number is coming up like crazy.

Damn I want to go to the casino right now!!!
