Drinking a Saigon Special, holding my dong and taking questions

What are some weird things that are legal there that surprised you as an American?

Pissing on the street. Walking around with an open container. I see people smoking weed in the open all of the time. There is a street with a bunch of bars on it known as the "backpackers street" where I have been offered to buy cocaine and heroin.

Another thing is people take the law into their own hands. There is a big problem with dog theft here. People steal dogs to sell to a dog meat restaurant - they can get $100-150 for one dog, which is a lot of money for the majority of Vietnamese people. If they are caught in the act, a mob of people will beat the shit out of them and sometimes even kill them. I have seen this happen on the side of a highway in central Vietnam.

Have you eaten dog meat? What else have you eaten that no American would consume?

I have not eaten dog meat. It is much more popular in the northern part of Vietnam. I saw several dog restaurants in Hanoi.

Weirdest thing I have eaten was a duck egg with a fertilized embryo inside of it. I didn't think it was bad. I've also had a liquor that has a cobra inside of the bottle - it is thought to be some kind of Viagra.

That is the balut egg correct? i remember that from fear factor. always made me want to yak watching people eat it.

can't believe people actually eat dog.

how much taller are you than everyone there? I stand at 6'1 and was like a walking mountain in thailand.

Yeah, though balut is a Filipino word. Here it is called trung vit lon.

I'm 5'11''. I dated a girl who was 4'11" for a few months and eventually broke up with her because I felt really uncomfortable about the height difference. It's a shame because she was an absolute freak in the sack.
