It's important to tell children that they can be anything they want so that they have to blame themselves instead of the system.
No, it's important to tell them the decked is stacked against progress so they grow up with no accountability and accept the lot society has given them.....and vote Democrat when offered a box of cigarettes to hit the voting booth.

So tomorrow Clinton is going to wade into the Wall Street waters during her speech at NYU.

Dimer can you set odds on the likelihood that Trump makes a "women belong in the kitchen" style remark when critiquing her speech?

0:1. He will definitely bring up her husbands infidelities in a crude way also. Or has he done that already? The guy is in rare territory after calling out McCain. Apparently he can say anything now.

Are you suggesting that all jobs are created equal?

The middle class is getting crushed. Those high paying manufacturing jobs that floated the middle class for decades are gone and they aren't coming back unless something changes in a hurry.

But hey, if someone gets a job for 8 bucks an hour at Walmart, that's a win for hope and change!

If only we had a president with some guts... one that would propose funding higher education to raise the middle class level of education to the jobs that they need and can help them acquire their desired level of income as opposed to the "high paying manufacturing jobs" that used to represent the middle class economy 50+ years ago...

Either that.... or a president with enough guts to turn back the clock to the olde economy.

You sound like Tom Wolf banging the drum for "higher education funding."

Because we all know that throwing more money at the problem will automatically make things gr8.

More like fattening the wallets of the teacher's unions that contributed millions of dollars to his campaign. Nothing to see here.

And I don't think you will find many people who are against the notion of improving education for our youngsters. Even if we are able to accomplish that, what good will it do if there aren't enough jobs for all of these well educated children?

You will find a lot of people who are against paying for it however. I can kind of see their point, though. It makes me sick every morning seeing kids getting on their government handout yellow limo rides to their entitlement education programs carrying their taxpayer subsidized books. And what do they give the ones that don't get enough learning during the year?? MORE FREE EDUCATION during the summer. It makes me sick.

ND's work in this thread is magnificent. I'm enjoying not being on the end of his magic for once :).

By the way, is it time for an updated list? Didn't some of these cats get taken down by Sharknado3?

Agree. F all these wealthy elementary school teachers and their gold-plated homes and cars!
Check the salaries for those who are at the top of the pay scale. Not bad for working 180 days a year. Plus they get Cadillac health plans that they often pay nothing for as well as guaranteed pensions that most states can no longer afford.

Yet they still bitch and complain. Both of my parents were teachers and even they have said that a lot of today's teachers need to get a clue and stop whining.

Either way, jacking up teacher salaries is no guarantee of improved academic performance, and that is where much of the "increased funding for education" will go.

I have no problem paying for it if it will yield results.

And none of this answers the question of where will all of these superbly educated children find jobs that pay more than 10 bucks an hour? Oh right, we'll force Mickey D's to pay 15 bucks an hour. Problem solved.

Mark Cuban is lingering just outside the top 10. This is an important point in his life where he gets to decide if he's a new kind of capitalist thinker or just Trump 2.0.

Shame on them for accepting the payment for their work that our elected public officials gave them. They should have voluntarily relinquished reasonable healthcare coverage and retirement security like the rest of us did years ago.

And yet you couldn't help yourself.

I'd expect better discipline from the child of wealthy school teachers.

I never said they were wealthy. I also said that my father started out making nothing.

I'd expect better reading comprehension from an accomplished man of the world such as yourself.

Define "reasonable."

Does that involve free health care for life and a guaranteed pension that is bankrupting state governments?

But let's not get off track here. You seem to be arguing that raising taxes to "properly fund education" will magically create good jobs that will support the middle class.

Do you feel that your taxes are not high enough? What do you feel is a reasonable percentage of your income that should be taxed?

You didn't need to say it.

To say they were school teachers AND wealthy would be an unnecessary redundancy.

I disagree with the notion that school teachers are wealthy, nor is that relevant to the discussion.

I guess it's up to your locally elected school board to define "reasonable". If you disagree with their definition, try voting for someone that does. Otherwise, you pay for what you voted for and don't have much to complain about.

Thanks for the civics lesson.

My locally elected school board does its best but since teachers have the right to walk off the job when it's time for a new contract, it makes things a bit difficult.

Thank goodness that the teacher's union is so concerned about the welfare of "the children."

Why did you put quotation marks around the words "the" and "children"? To make your point, wouldn't they be better placed around the word, "concerned"?

Those stay with the union leadership. The teachers settle for their gold-plated taxoayer funded pensions, summers off, and free healthcare.

No.

I am making reference to the fact that the union always claims that "it's all about the children," as opposed to its members.

Yes, and if we pay these teachers even more, then the quality of education that is provided will skyrocket! Everybody wins!

Teachers union are corrupt dem machines. What they did last week to Bernie sanders is a prime example. They are a taxpayer funded political arm of the dem party.

adp....another future heir who will one day bathe in the riches of an educator's lifetime of gross over-compensation.

Surely if these swine were making such a ludicrous above-market wage they could easily be replaced the second they walk out the door, right? How common is it for teachers to strike? I would say that about half of CoP area districts are operating under an expired contract.
