I had an opportunity to speak briefly with Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree as he transitions from the AAU season into getting ready for his senior year. He only had time for a few questions, but our short conversation increased my anticipation of seeing him in a Villanova uniform.
NovaIllustrated: What made you decide on Villanova?
Cosby-Roundtree: They were the right fit education-wise. They welcomed me as more than just a basketball player.
NI: What can Villanova fans expect from you when you take the court as a Wildcat?
CR: A LOT of energy. A lot of dunking. Just playing hard all the time and trying to win every game.
NI: What will you be looking to improve upon during your senior season?
CR: Definitely my mid-range game. My defense, particularly on the perimeter and just my ability to play on the perimeter. Also my strength.
NI: I know you need to go, thanks for your time and good luck in your senior year. Looking forward to seeing you at Villanova.
CR: Thank you for the opportunity.
Despite our conversation being short, it spoke volumes to me. You have to like what you hear in his answers. A hard-working kid who is all about effort and energy (he really emphasized the energy he will bring), a perfect Villanova guy. A kid who appreciates what ‘Nova offers both on and off the basketball court. And a kid who is ready to put in the work and improve his game, and has the ability to recognize areas where improvement is necessary. But I was even more impressed with his demeanor. He was polite, he was humble, and he was thoughtful. It was a pleasure having a conversation with him. He is a great fit for ‘Nova and the culture that coach Wright has built, and Villanova has an excellent addition on and off the court.
We also spoke about having a more in-depth discussion in the future, and I am looking forward to setting that up with him.
