Would take me too long to give a detailed answer to this, but I will try and be short and summarize.
Armenia had a bigger kingdom originally, and as happens in history they lost parts of it in wars etc. As a result many Armenians were born/raised in provinces of Turkey. When the Young Turks took power they were not happy that Armenians (who were Christians) were living among them and prospering. Much like the extremists Islamist's of today they wanted to create a caliphate, so they forced these Armenians to convert to Islam or be killed. Of course Armenians (1st Christian nation btw) refused. On top of that, many Armenian scholars, intellectuals, artists etc were rounded up and killed (this is where
April 24, 1915 comes from as the main date of remebrance).
Fast forward, many Armenians were forced to flee their homes in Turkey and they spread all over the Middle East - Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon etc etc. Hence, an Armenian diaspora was created. Each of these areas had their own traditions and absorbed a lot of the culture of the country they were in.
On top of that, there are hard lines (political parties) over which Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Christians are split that carry over to this day. It's definitely more a thing of my parents generation. Armenians hold grudges like I have never seen, but that is the not the case as much with the younger generations that started being born/raised in America. It's actually this generation that has done the most for recognition of the Genocide which is way the cause has exponentially grown over the past let's say 20 years.
tl;dr - Genocide forced Armenians to scatter, they all had different culture/traditions, Armenians are stubborn and hold grudges, younger generation getting past that.
