Seriously considering doing Lasik, almost everyone I've spoken with who's had it says it's great. Looks like to go to a good doctor it's about 2,000-2,400/eye. I'm spending $400/year on daily contacts, seems to make sense in the long run.

Anyone have a good doctor recommendation in the CoP? Good/Bad experiences? Seems like the price also might be negotiable.

I don't know much about it, but Mrs. Burrs had it done and she seems happy. She went to the office right next to the KoP mall. It seemed well recommended, but I can't say for sure.

Just square up and squeeze those corneas back into shape.

Square up and wear glasses. 800 a year for contacts?!? Are you nuts??

Worth every penny. As long as you stay away from those $200 per eye places that advertise on mass transit you should be OK.

Only $400/year total, but I like daily lenses (though they are pricier) because it's not a big deal if you lose one. I would never take out 2 week lenses and put them away properly.

I workout 5-6 times a week, glasses are a pain. Can't lie down comfortably and watch TV.

Can't you wear what this guy did when he played in the NBA?

I've thought about it too. My vision is bad. My contacts prescription is -7.5. Contacts were scratching my corneas so I had to switch to thick glasses. My fear is that lasic would mess up my near vision. I have heard that that frequently happens.

I had lasik about 15 yrs ago at age 47. I was told that I would eventually need "cheaters" for reading and that in large art the need for them was age related. About 5 yrs ago I noticed a decline in ability to read without "cheaters". Prior to that I didn't need them if I had good natural light but depended on them otherwise. Now days I need the cheaters for reading all the time.

I would recommend lasik to anyone provide red you use reputable provider.

Had a bunch of friends do it, if you can afford it, it's an absolute no brainer. Your options are either be able to not see and need assistance for the rest of your life or be able to see like normal people. Probably the 2nd option is better.

There are 2 right next door to each other. Kremer and Lasic Plus.

The place next to the mall is Kremer Laser Eye. Think he was one of the pioneers of that procedure. Offices look a little dim and dingy now.

Had my preliminary appointment today at Kremer. Was told I was an ideal candidate for the surgery, not surprisingly. My eyes are -2.5 with no real problems, should be a simple procedure.

Cost is $4,300. If I pay cash, $4,150 -- probably option I'll do.

Cons:
-I have no way to get to KOP -- which is the only place they do the surgery (or Cherry Hill). Was really hoping I could knock this out in CoP Proper.
-I could tell the doctor I had was lying to me about how bad the post-surgery symptoms would be. Could just sense she was full of crap of how long it would take the "halos" to go away.
-I have to wear glasses for 2 weeks prior to surgery, no contacts.

Apparently the surgery only takes 20 minutes. Nice little pay day for them.

For me the recovery was limited to 24 hours of feeling like there was a grain of sand in each eye. After that, it felt completely natural and my vision was "perfect".

The actual procedure is ridiculously fast.

Post surgery side effects are really not a big deal at all. I had mine dine at 5:30pm and was at work the next day. I had to wear sunglasses because I was really light sensitive, but aside from that I was fine. The day after that, I was 100%. No halos or anything. Your eyes are the fastest healing membrane on your entire body. It really doesn't take long at all.

Good to hear. Is that price in line with what you guys did? Apparently there is some wiggle room (guy in my office knows someone who works at Kremer).

Figured if I put the whole thing on my credit card and paid it off right away I'd only get $65 back from PNC cash back. Might as well just pay cash and save the extra dough.

I had PRK in August. The recovery is advertised as longer for this than for LASIK, and it was still nothing. Basically a weekend where I avoided reading. No pain. It took some time for my vision to fully settle in, which is common with farsighted people. Nearsighted people are apparently all fine in a day or two. The procedure took closer to 2 minutes than 20 minutes. I've been very pleased with the results.

Get Lasik. If there is an apocalyptic event and you're fighting for your life are you going to want to be searching abandoned houses for contacts/glasses? I rest my case

I'm more worried about being able to watch 'Nova in crystal clear HD from my living room couch. Apparently you can't wear contacts for 2 weeks prior to the surgery though, affects when I want to do it. Maybe I'll plan it for the 1st week of April so i can enjoy a 'Nova ship and see myself into Opening Day.

Why don't you just wear glasses for the 2 weeks that you can't wear contacts?

I plan on doing that, but I have a few client meetings coming up in Vegas and DC over the next 2 weeks. Also will probably have to go to Florida at some point in March for work. I'm a lot more confident with contacts in, the pitch in DC is probably the biggest one of my career. Need to feel good.

Did it 8 years ago. Worth it. I did it in NYC though so don't have any recommendations in Philly.

Update. In the waiting room at KoP lasik center. Feeling pretty good, just worried about sneazing.

NovaNation, I did my procedure Good Friday as well. 8 years ago. Unbelievable. Worth it! Good luck.

Update: After 6 hours of keeping my eyes closed (and some pain -- not unbearable), seems like pretty solid results. Keeping sunglasses on for the next few days -- and have to do eye drops every hour.

Procedure only took 15 minutes. They had told me I'd be out around 12:30-2:30PM, ended up being done at 10:30AM. Problem was my ride wasn't coming until 12:30 so I had to sit in the waiting room with my sweater over my head like an idiot for 2 hours.

Paid in cash -- $4,125. Happy so far, I'll bump back up after 2 weeks with a full update.
