Matt Gibney won his heat and had the fastest time of the day today in the 1500 meters. The race was a typical sit and kick, which suits Gibney and his strong kick off a slow pace. He ran 3:46.29.

Sheila Reid also ran the fastest 1500 of the day (4:16.81) and qualified for nationals. Reid also qualified for nationals at 5000 meters (16:17.77). Her time was the 8th fastest of the day (over 2 heats) as she finished 4th in her heat. In the same heat, Bogdana Mimic finished a blink behind Reid in 5th (16:17.96) and therefore qualified for nationals as well.

100 meter hurdler Shericka Ward also qualified for the national meet (Des Moines, Iowa @ Drake University, June 8-11). She was 3rd in her heat and 9th overall in 13.19.

All four of these athletes are making their second trip to the national championship meet.

Missing out today were: (top 12 advance to nationals)

Hugo Beamish: 13th overall (14:10.09) at 5000 meters
Mathew Mildenhall: 15th overall (14:11.16) at 5000 meters
Mahon-Ward-Verdier-McDonald: 19th overall (3:40.17) in the 4 x 400 meter relay
Emily Lipari: 22nd overall (4:33.30) at 1500 meters
Brian Long: 23rd overall (14:29.87) at 5000 meters
Brian Tetreault: 24th overall (3:59.73) at 1500 meters
Ali Smith: 25th overall (16:54.69) at 5000 meters

Is something wrong with Lipari? She looked tired at Penn Relays and did not perform well. And now she is losing to girls she beat handily in HS ...??? suggests something is wrong.
