Fantastic come from behind win vs. Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Tied 1-1 at the half, the 2nd half downfall began quickly in the first 7 minutes. Down 3-1 in the 52nd minute and then netting one in the 70th minute to be down 3-2 with 5:00 to go, they score two more goals to secure the win vs. a top 3 team on its home turf. Never scored more than 1 goal vs. the Dutch in 4 previous matches (outscored 7-1). Yes, it was a 'friendly' but the Dutch were obviously playing to win. Hopefully a sign of things to come during future international play. Announcers cited statistic that since the last WC, the US outscored opponents 12-4 in 1st half but were outscored 12-3 in the 2nd half and looked like that trend would continue in this game before the late heroics. Great win! On to Germany next week...

US was 400-1 at Sportsbook.com to win outright when trailing 3-2 in the 85th min.

Need to win the Gold Cup this summer.

They had several opportunities to win but didn't. Goalie choked and so did the offense. Can't even count the number of easy goals they had in OT but flat out missed.

Obviously it's not a big deal, but it definitely was a choke job.

wasnt the game meaningless?

The friendly VS the Netherlands meant nothing. Only games in the World Cup matter for the US.
The S16 game against Belgium where Tim Howard let down countless American children didn't mean much either, but at least people were watching.

That's the number 3 or 4 team in the world. Even if the Netherlands eased up a bit after being up 3-1 (and it looked like the US was going through the motions at that point) the US squad still had to capitalise on mistakes and put the ball in the back of the net twice in 20 minutes to draw and a third time to win. Considering they've only scored 1 goal in four previous matches vs. Netherlands that is remarkable. Great substitutions by Klinsmann. The US looked faster (and the Dutch were holding and grabbing jerseys a lot) and used its speed/youth to take advantage. The referee also letting them play on on the ball Bradley took the distance was also key to setting up the tying goal. May have been a friendly but make no mistake the Dutch expected to win and this is a great result/confidence booster for the mens team.

I get that it was a good win, I just can't get excited over winning meaningless games.

It's not meaningless. It's less meaningful than a cup tie, but it still counts towards the world rankings. Also, this team was missing several significant players. Most notably its top striker, best goal scorer, keeper, and its top three central defenders.

Bobby Wood scored the winning goal ffs.

The Dutch had everybody except for Robben.

The USWNT is favored to win it all. If they can't bring home the cup, it would be a bigger collapse than the 2014 Nationals. Would hate to see them let down the whole country like the men's team did.

What the hell are you talking about?

Group of Death! 3 teams in the top 10 in the world

Thanks Title IX.
If the US Women lose I vote we reverse title IX. Or we unleash a drunk Hope Solo on each member of the women's team. Note, Alex Morgan is sparred unless it's another kind of engagement.

Group of Death! 3 teams in the top 10 in the world

USA should steam roll through first round:

Sweden: 16/1 - Toughest opponent (6 teams have better odds than Sweden)
Australia: 51/1 - Pushover (9 teams have better odds than Australia)
Nigeria: 200/1 - Losing/drawing this match would be widely considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of women's soccer. (16 teams have better odds than Nigeria)

Love how people will call any bracket USA is in the "bracket of death". We are the ones who bring the pain.

NN1188 is the king of hyperbole

I'm just saying it would be a shocking upset if USWNT doesn't win it all. Frankly, it wouldn't even be a "soccer" upset, it would be a sports world upset.

On par with UK not winning it all this past year.
