Jordan Matthews not scoring that TD in the 4th Q last night cost me $50 in Fanduel

figured you guys would enjoy that

I don't enter into any of the million dollar tournaments...you are never going to win anything in those unless you get a perfect lineup

I typically play 5 man leagues with $5/$10 buy-in winner take all. its minor stuff but its fun to follow.

How in any way does something like that's such small stakes excite you? You don't have $20 or $40 to piss around in hopes of hitting a big one? It's not impossible at all to win a lot of $ doing those things. I've done it. Not millions. But thousands. Sure there are psychos who do those things as their only job along with playing poker and day trading but if we're keeping it real they don't know anything more than you or me. They're just taking the time out of their terrible lives to fill out 100 damn entries. It's not hard at all to at least make back the $20 or $40 you put up. 2 entries I have found is a sufficient number of tickets to have a solid chance to at least get your own cash back. I find the weekly leagues more enjoyable than season leagues at this point. And it's not even close.

Yeah, it's not like there are computers that can do complex analysis and mass automated online form entry.

Just heard an interesting spot on these sites. Should be a money maker as they are the first league endorsed for of gambling. Bob kraft an investor in fan duel or draft kings, one of them.

No? You don't say? Thanks for that bombshell. However. You've obviously never done those contests. You still have to enter the lineups manually. Which if you're doing hundreds takes hours and would be incredibly tedious. There's no program you can attach to their working website to automate the player selection for you. You still have to scroll and click and scroll and click. The computer programs can break down analytics for you but it's still on you to do the manual entry. It's not automated. I know. I have asked.

My only wonder about these 2 sites is if they use bots. How would anyone know if some of these entries are imaginary as a cash vacuum to ensure their margins? They both invest an incredible amount into marketing. Millions. I do wonder. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

You said "if we're keeping it real, they don't know anything more than you or me." Yes, they do. That's why they're winning f*cking millions.

Bullsh*t. Disposable income. Risk averse nutjobs. The people who win huge are more than likely investing an incredible amount of money into hundreds of entries. I'm sure a very large majority of them are taking a bath doing so. The lucky few who are winning huge are an absolutely minuscule % measured against the many who are getting crushed. How do you you think these sites thrive and can afford to dump millions and millions into marketing? Because people are losing. A lot of people. And it's not the small $20 players funding this. It's the high rollers who are dumping thousands upon thousands into the websites.

Gdog, something to consider is these sites have big time investors who are happy to lose some money up front based on a greater return. It really is brilliant as its legialised gambling which for the first time leagues have embraced in a real way.

No doubt. And that's obvious. It's a good investment. But the investment is met with a near guarantee that they'll see a ROI thanks to tons of people losing their ass dumping $ into the site.

Agree, just speaking to how they are spending all the money on advertising. It is from capital they raised not a bunch of guys dropping six figures to play fan duel etc
.

Nope. Tons of small time dopes fund the big timers just like in any gambling game. Sure, you need a lot of seed money to toss up 300 entries/day, but by no means are they getting crushed.

Small timers are thrilled to have their money taken so that they can talk about something while shoving chicken wings in their face.
The big timers are thrilled to be making bank.
The sites are happy to take their cut, advertise the big winners as well as the little guy who lucks out from time to time.
The NFL loves it because they get the ad revenue and more fat addicted fans with some scratch (legally) on the line.

Everybody leaves with a smile on their face.
(except: 1) a cocky MBA student who plows in too much of his 401k relying on his basic ROBUST models 2) bookies and regular fantasy sites who theoretically would be losing a chunk of their action )

At the moment, adp is correct and these sites apparently aren't making a ton of money. There actually was an article in the Journal about this in the last week or so -- private equity backed companies, currently willing to spend on prizes in excess of entry fees -- and now (though not in the article) probably significantly cash flow negative for a time with the full court marketing press they have on now.

But presumably once they feel they've spent enough to get the word out, they'll dial down the marketing and I'd think rake. Some agitating to regulate them which seems to be one risk to the model, but only a slight one (unlike prior online sports gambling) given that there's a nice carveout to the federal law they've fit this in for fantasy sports. Drafters of the law didn't think of this...

Love the people who go to Delaware to donate money on those impossible multi-team parlays that are designed to do nothing but rape you. Not only do they do nothing but donate they waste gas money to drive there to do so. And in the rare chance they do win they're not even paid out a true proportionate amount as to what those parlays should pay. Think office pool type scam only not as quite as abhorrent. Nothing is more abhorrent than that mob activity designed to rip people off on ties when they make every line 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14. That and those office pools pay out approximately one-third of what a parlay hit is actually supposed to pay. I had a guy who "wanted to speak with me" when I educated a lot of his "clients" on how badly he was ripping them off.

Learn to use this thing called the Internet, clowns.

When will it be attacked by the government for illegal state gambling?

I don't think it happens. Society is trending the other way. Gambling and weed will be legal sooner rather than later. You can legally buy weed on Capitol Hill and MGM is building a brand new massive casino that can be seen from the Capitol Dome.

Tell us more about what an intuitive gambler you are.

Intuitive enough not to play a f*cking office pool or a 5-team parlay that pays less than half of what it should, champ. What can I say, I'm here to help.

I'm a nice guy. I dont enjoy seeing others get ripped off by the man and by mobsters.

How's that automated program on Draft Kings working out? Is it saving you time entering your lineups? Oh wait, fantasy sports is beneath you. You're so royal.

Dimer is too mature to play fantasy football. He prefers re-runs of Downton Abby over a bottle of Chateau Bordeaux.
