You will defend these things till death

So angry for the situation he left his wife and kids.

The guy had major, major internal problems and was in such a bad state that he was incapable of thinking beyond his own pain. Hopefully his wife / children come to realize that one day.

ADP---sorry to hear about your friend. I don't have any experience with this but I'm sure his wife/kids need all the support you can give them.

The entire way it went down was the most selfish act I've encountered in my life. I'm trying to find a sliver lining here but none of the ones I come up with are good. Just a really awful situation and you feel for those left to deal with the mess. Sorry for the ruining a fun thread but it's been a rough stretch and the group therapy helps.

ADP I had a friend kill himself two years ago leaving behind a wife an 11 year old and an 18 year old. Just a horrible situation. All I can say is be there for the family they will need all the support they can get. It will take time. I was extremely angry. I refused to go to the wake and funeral and now regret it because I should have been there to support his wife and kids. I have come to realize it was a moment of weakness and pain that he couldn't get beyond at that moment. One moment in a lifetime of being a great friend, husband and dad.

Perhaps, but the last 2 years at Cincy, Paul was their HR hitter. He had the highest HR total on their team in those years. In the 2 years before that, he was protected by other power hitters, and his batting average was .270s. O'Neill was also platooned early on with the Yankees to only hit against RHP.

real question: client/friend, just killed himself last week. How do you reconcile being so angry with him and not hating him for what he did? Sorry, but that's been my life since Thursday.

ADP, took get to that point a person is severely ill. They've hit rock bottom and see no hope and no way out. Even though their life and situation IS fixable, in their mind it isn't. They get trapped in their own head and the pain becomes unbearable. I can only imagine how much pain your friend was in and that makes me truly sad for him. And most people in that situation go about it alone or without help, which really on exasperates it and makes friends and family angry or feel guilty (which they shouldn't).

I recommend sitting down with mutual friends and sharing good memories. Have some drinks and remember him for who he truly was before he went down this path. And know that for some people, like addicts, they just can never get through it. Don't be angry at him. Hopefully he finally found peace and understand that he didn't "give up." The person who he became after becoming depressed took over did.

Depression and other mental illnesses are extremely serious and unfortunately we don't talk enough about them in today's world.

If you'd like to talk further I'm happy to send you my email address.
