atlantic sun championship game

Has a 12-21 Stetson team (4-10 in the league) winning by 5 with 10 mins to go. Wow. If they pull this off this could be Kansas, UVA, Nova whoever's 1st game in the tourney. How nice would that be? To draw a team that won 4 conf games all year. The place will erupt if they pull this off. Plus Austin Peay won their league at 18-17.

Mr. Brightside Video

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but last night, Bill Simmons' new website "The Ringer" tweeted out a link to the 2005-06 video.

Good stuff.

Apropos of seeing Randy Foye on the floor...His 05-06 Nova squad with Kyle Lowry was very fun (also: Mr Brightside!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCm2AQu0AtM…

Jon Rothstein: Nova will be the one-seed in East

Rothstein said, in no uncertain terms, that we're going to get the coveted 1-seed that we desire. Is he being premature here? I was thinking that we need one or two more wins, in the BE tourney, to make Brooklyn a stone-cold lock.

It's extremely impressive how this group showed so much focus to close out the regular season. What that says is that they respect their opponents each and every game, whether it's a power like Oklahoma or a struggling Georgtown team. They play for each other, their coach, and the name on their uniform. The Irish UFC guy Conor McGregor had a great sportsman's quote after his loss a little while ago - "I believe you're humble in victory, and humble in defeat." That reminds me of the culture that Jay has built at VU.

Man, we're going to miss Ryan and Chef. They've certainly had a full serving of four years of college basketball. When they came in, Jay was coming off what was probably the toughest year of his coaching career. They've spearheaded the program's dominance of the "new Big East, and man, these two are all-time Cats, IMO. Ryan, in particular, has just had an amazing career. I think back to when he was a frosh, when he had his old buzz cut. He didn't have the look of a Big East guard who would single-handedly put us on his back (think back to that late '13 Syracuse game), and get us back into the tourney, so quickly. But he did. And he's changed his role so many times over the last four years. He's gone from BE POY last year, to a senior who's content on just getting three or four buckets in some games, as long as his team wins. You just don't find many four-year D-1 players with a career like he's had. He's another coach on the floor, whose tireless example of diving after loose balls sets such a perfect example of how Jay defines "Villanova Basketball."

We all hope that Ryan and Chef can close out the last chapter of their careers in blue & white by playing in the second weekend, and beyond. They certainly deserve it, as much as any other athletes in college basketball. People are going to take their shots at Nova, so get ready for the early-exit jokes from "experts" and fans alike. Hey, it comes with the territory of being a top-10 program. This is a unique team - each team is every year - so don't worry about the carry-over effect. It's got new scorers, new leaders, new dynamics. What we're seeing from Jenkins right now gives us a reason to believe in this team. He can be counted on for a consistent 15+ PPG now - with the ability to go for 25 - and this is critical, because it takes so much of the scoring burden off of "Mr. Motor" Josh Hart's back. Josh has enough work to do, exerting so much energy defensively and rebounding. KJ's emergence really makes us a better team than the team we saw just last month. And what if we could see more of the "Temple game" Jalen Brunson in some big games coming up? I think Jalen's been very good this year, and that the best is yet to come. If we get KJ and Brunson playing their best ball, together in the same games - look out.

Just a couple notes -

I saw that Omari put up 17 & 9 in a postseason win yesterday.

It's probably been stated here recently, but I saw on Twitter that Lonnie Walker ranks Nova, SMU, Stanford, Miami, and Oregon as his top-5.

Enjoy this month, it's a great time of year. This unique Villanova team can get it done. GO CATS

Akron,Saint Joesph's and Temple the silent saviors for #1 in the east

Did anyone think in the beginning of the year Akron would be a rpi top 40 win ?? ( #38 ) or how about Saint Joes being a potential top 25 win ?? Temple wins over the years have been good to us,,But this year win at Temple has been a gift almost unimaginable a month ago...Hopefully all 3 of these teams make the dance and help us get to our ultimate goal,,#1 seed in the East...

BE Win Records

Yesterday, the 'Nova Seniors tied UConn '96 class for most BE regular season wins by a Class.
Villanova can set a new record for overall Big East wins by winning the BET - or tie the record by going 2-1 and losing in the BE Title game. Arch and Ochefu are 109-26 overall (.807).
Here are the stats:
1787870.jpg

Jenkins and Hart could blow all of these records out of the water next year.
Currently, the Juniors are:
89-12 (.881) overall
48-6 (.889) in BE regular season games
51-7 (.879) in all BE games

it will take 21 overall wins to set a new Villanova class wins record next season.
it will take an 11-7 BE regular season record to pass 2016 VU and 1996 UConn for the BE regular season wins by a class record.

Some award winning thoughts...

Does anyone else agree that the Big East Regular season trophy looks like a piece of crap? It looks like a FISCHER PRICE hard plastic ball on top of a pedestal. Honestly get rid of the tonka toy and present an award worthy of a major basketball conference.

Wasn't the Big East head honcho supposed to award the trophy? Did Val get lost in traffic?

The announcement about the award ceremony over the PA system was too late and the Wells Fargo PA system in the upper decks sucks. Half the time you could not understand the PA announcer. ( And it was not because of crowd noise. ) It is a shame because this great team achievement should have been recognized by and applauded by a hell of a lot more fans than those few who stayed for the ceremony.

Again thanks to the PA systems I still don't know what the kid won, who hit the half court shot.

Random Acts of Kindness

This morning when I pulled up to the Dunkin drive thru they told me the woman ahead of me had paid for me. I was confused since I didn't know her. (It happened once before but when I looked closer I knew the woman who paid the last time). When I mentioned it to 2 people they seemed unsurprised and said it was a "random act of kindness." I've seen the bumper stickers but I didn't know it was a real thing. It was a nice gesture.

Is this common? Maybe I just look poor.

Imagine if Kris Jenkins.......

Imagine if Kris Jenkins really tore his ACL during the Delaware game as was originally thought. This was brought up by the Fox announcers during the DePaul game who spoke to Jay after the Delaware post game press conference. I am paraphrasing here but Jay said something to the effect that "Kris really hurt his knee bad and it is his ACL". Boy what would our season been like if Kris tore his ACL. We need to savor this season. This is a special team on a great run. This is the most unselfish team in the Jay Wright era. For about 24 hours after the Delaware game this season could have went down drain. Here we are Big East regular season champs and possible East 1 seed in the NCAA tournament with games in Brooklyn and Philadelphia. This could be the perfect storm! Enjoy the ride fellas!!!
