DOWN GOES THE CUSE AGAIN

...ANOTHER GOOD DAY ANYTIME THE CUSE LOSES......THIS WELL CONSTRUCTED LONG TEAM MAY BE HEADING FOR A SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON WITH NO NCAA BID..........THE SIX EIGHT TYLER ROBERSON WHO WANTED TO PLAY OUT ON THE PERIMETER.AND NOT INSIDE........HAS A MIND BOGGLING TOTAL OF........ZERO......THREE POINTERS MADE THIS YEAR......THATS NOT ONE FIELD GOAL FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON......FROM THE PERIMTER ARC......NOT ONE.....THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW GAMES AT CONSHY MAKE STARS OUT OF AVERAGE PLAYERS......AT BARELY SIX FOOT EIGHT, TYLER IS SYRACUSE STARTING CENTER.........HE HAD FOUR REBOUNDS TONIGHT....VERSATILE...HE IS NOT..

Recruiting Hypothetical

Remember, I am not an insider, I know nothing, not trying to start anything, not throwing anything against no wall to see what sticks.....

But...let's say Josh Hart walked into Jay's office this morning and said "I am going NBA regardless"

Do you thing we would/should try to bring in another wing in the 2016 class? I don't really know what is out there but I would lean to "No" Now a coaching change difference maker or 5th year graduate is another story but to start now with some random 167th ranked kid who will probably leave in 2 years.....nah

Debbie Downer...

... my biggest concern halfway through the season is that as of today we rank 277 out of 346 Division 1 teams in three point field goal percentage at 31.5%...this is got to be the lowest in a bunch of seasons...concerned that it will come back to haunt us if it stays at the present level... yeah I know we have other ways to score but sooner or later we're going to need the 3 ball in a tourney game...

Seth Davis Hoop Thoughts

As always, this week is a must read ...but one nugget struck me as particularly interesting. There's no doubt that Jalen has had his struggles at times this year -- he's certainly had flashes too, and his freshman year, to me, is much more up than down.

But if you think he has struggled...check out the shooting stats from a guy who this board often mentioned as being an alternative to Brunson...Isaiah Briscoe:

"For all the focus on Skal Labissiere, Kentucky’s biggest problem right now is that it is an awful shooting team. Isaiah Briscoe, the highly touted 6'3" freshman guard, is shooting 34.0% from the foul line. He’s also making 18.2% from three. That’s not a shooting guard, that’s a missing guard."

Yeeeeeeeeeeesh........

Thoughts from Hinkle

First trip to Hinkle and it was everything I thought it would be and more. Got off the plane with my father sporting our Nova gear and was stopped by President Danko (old Dean and Prez of Butler). Spoke to him in the airport and took us on a private tour of Hinkle yesterday at 10 AM. There are basketball arena's and there is Hinkle. The facility, locker rooms, training, etc are beautiful much like our own Davis Center. They put alot of money into to keep up with the Big East schools. Truly an amazing facility, then you go on the court and wow. Its just an incredible arena, the lay out is awesome, modern yet keeps that classic field house look. Around the facility they have pictures/trophies/a Hoosiers area about the history of the arena. You walk in and the first thing you see is "The Butler Way", reminds me of Nova, actually its amazing how these two programs are very similar in how they go about things.

When we wrapped up the tour which was awesome, President Danko is a great guy, we bumped into the team coming in for practice, I turn around and there is Dan, Josh and Darryl with their hands out saying thanks for coming out. Very nice guys, the entire team was as they did the same after the game when we were waiting for our Uber in the lobby. These kids are just great people, makes you proud to be a Wildcat.

As for the game, the atmosphere is incredible. When Dunham hit that three in transition the place went nuts. Honestly, I have never been in atmosphere like that better than UCONN, Cuse, etc. The sight lines in the arena are fantastic, student section was awesome and on both sides of the court. Butler fans were just great people, knew their basketball, several came up to us and said the only games we cheer against Nova are when we play you. They love Jay, they knew our team very well. Just great people, we are lucky to have them in the Big East. When Bridges threw down the put back, the guy next to me looked at me and said what year is he again? I said frosh, he then said "Oh Crap".

If you are a college basketball fan, makes this trip, honestly there is truly nothing like it unless you go to Duke but who wants to be around Duke fans. Indy is a great city, had great convos with alot of random sport fans who knew Villanova very well. St. Elmos is a very cool place, shrimp cocktail there is amazing. Great catching up with a few board members there including danmcguire.

On to the game. Winning this game told me alot about this team. My buddies kept texting me about how poor we were playing I kept saying if we keep this close in the first half we are going to win, the environment was insane and I thought the first half was just disjointed for both teams. When Brunson goes to the Mid West (Butler, Cinnci and Depaul) he is going to get it. The student section was really on him specifically in the first half, I was kind of surprised because Arc is usually the one who gets that but I guess alot these kids probably know Brunson from his high school days. Dont know if it got him but he was out of sync both offensively and defensively. What has been said about Hart and Bridges is right on, these two guys brought it. Reynolds I thought played a great game and so did Jenkins, Arc and Booth. Our team was exhausted we had to really play a 6 man rotation for the most of the second half with Brunson and Ochefu on the bench. They truly gutted out the win.

Jones reminds me of a Jerome Bettis style running back. He wears you down and when your tired and in foul trouble in the 2nd half he just keeps bringing it. Kid is a tough tough player, love watching him play. Lucky we have a guy like Hart who is very similar.

Lastly, after we won this game, Daniel Ochefu was pumped. When I mean pumped he was jumping around the court, he was high fiving everyone tell the team how great a win this is. This is what defines a great leader. The season is a grind, you get in foul trouble and have a tough night but you acknowledge what your team did and you get them excited about it. You could tell it got the young guys excited too after a long night battling.

Also got to catch up with Father Hagen who married me years ago and Marc Jackson. Just great guys. Marc Jackson may have been just as excited as me and my Dad to go to Hinkle.

Great program, we are lucky to be Cats fans and have so many wonderful people involved in the program. I mean this, enjoy it, enjoy every moment of it, make trips to Hinkle, enjoy the team and cheer like heck for our players. They are just great kids, who truly love Nova and the support we provide.

Lastly, special shout to my Dad for making the trip and my wife letting me go to Indy for a weekend in January, when I probably have 100 husband to do list things to do.

Go Cats.

As good as we are playing right now...

This is still a flawed team. We are winning in a lot of different ways, which is good, but also shows that we are very inconsistent. I am glad to see us winning tough games when our 3-point shot isn't falling and our big guys are out with foul trouble but Seth Greenberg is right...we are not a "great" team.

Yet we are still the best in the Big East, without a doubt. Last year we had two regular season games where we couldn't shoot, and we lost both (@GTown, @SH). This year we have already had back-to-back games where we couldn't shoot, and won both. Major credit needs to go to our coaching staff for the consistent style of physical, aggressive and "never quit" attitude the players have each and every game. Regardless of whether or not shots fall, we always play hard.

I bring up the "flawed team" line not because I don't wear blue-colored glasses or hope they run to the Final 4 this year, but because when March comes, it will NOT be easy to get to the second weekend, which so many hold over our collective heads as the only thing that matters. The quality of team we face in the second round in March will be no worse than the Butler team we just faced, and it will mostly likely be in a hostile environment where everyone is pulling for the underdog.

3 things can happen in that game:

1. we can completely overwhelm the other team with our physical play, hit a bunch of shots and dominate from tip to buzzer (see UCLA, Duke).
2. we can play hard, but get matched in intensity like NC State, but neither team is making shots and we squeak out a win.
3. We can play hard, get matched in intensity like NC State, but the other team hits some shots from 3 and we can't make an outside shot and lose a close game.

Since I see this as a very inconsistent shooting team, I think #2 or #3 is much more likely to happen. Hart is not someone I think can put together a 30-point game all on his own, as he is our best player right now. Our guards are good and fun to watch, but there is not a Randy Foye in the mix. Ochefu is playing great, but can still have a bad game.

Bottom line: enjoy the ride, and enjoy watching this team play all of these games, because come March, it is going to be hard to advance.

OT: Moving TiVo clips to a PC

Hi folks,

Got a techie question here... Does anyone have experience with moving clips from a TiVo (Roamio) to a PC?

I had to replace my old cable box during the off-season, and since they no longer use component cables my old video recording hardware (Hauppauge PVR) is obsolete. I've tried using a HDMI to Component converter, but the TiVo does not like it and gives me the message saying it cannot play back any of the recordings.

Quick Thoughts

Besides Hart playing out of his mind!

- Bridges really becoming a difference maker -- defense AND offense end. Only getting better I would hate game planning for him. Defensive disruptor and offensively has a shot and some dribble drive/offensive rebounding ability.

- Ochefu's first moving screen foul was a close but his second was blatant. Honestly I dont fault the refs for calling them. He is a chronic offender especially with his legs out wide. That's a foul per rule definition.

- Reynolds -- I actually think he played one of his better games. I only remember 2 bonehead mistakes but overall he battled. He fouled often but Jay used him smartly. Hit a bucket too. Not unhappy with his play on a night we needed him more than ever.

-Brunson and Booth havent even hit their stride yet so still lots of room for improvement there. Brunson seems in a mental slump. He will get there.

Roosevelt Jones will play

Not much of a surprise but the once questionable, then doubtful, then likely out Roosevelt Jones will play tonight. Reminded me a bit of the Desi Rodriguez situation, where he was going to miss our game, then not start, and then of course Williard started him. Although this different with an injury vs. knucklehead player/coach.
