OT: Seasonlong Pool

Interested to hear how people are doing so far. Especially how any 5s or 6s you picked are doing. My two 5s, Ball State and Duquesne have started out 6-2 and 6-1 respectively...pretty happy about that. In case anyone cares, my two entries are AEich1 and AEich2. One has 54 points and the other has 55. Probably one of my best starts doing this.

Bridges

probably the unsung hero tonight. Made some big plays on offense and was again a real problem for the opposition on the point of the 3 qtr press. In 3 years he may go down as the best player Jay has ever had at the point of the press. His long arms are very disruptive to small guards, they just can not pass around him. He came in and got almost immed turnover on the point of the press. Sweet dunk in traffic too and nice cut for the DO pass for dunk down the stretch. He is getting more confidence with each game, fun to watch.

Pretty fun game

Didn't really think it was ever in doubt, but I had a 13 point win (we won by 14) though I thought it would be lower scoring...

Anyway, we did some good things out there, still need to box out better, but we didn't do anything different offensively, we just made some shots. I like the 3's falling in the first half, which really opened up a lot of 2's in the second half. Ochefu seems to only be credited with 1 block, but had about 3-4...played a monster 2nd half after a terrible first half, mostly from a "between the ears" standpoint.

Hart and Archi willed this team to victory and Bridges, Jenkins, and Brunson played solidly. I hope Booth can snap out of his funk or whatever because we need him. He was nice and aggressive again tonight, but his shot needs to start to drop. I think he's just thinking a little too much right now, instead of just playing. He'll be fine.

That being said, st joes (PA)(LOL) hit some tough shots and made it a bit of a game, but the outcome wasn't really in doubt, even when they got it to 6.

Maybe adp was right and I was wrong!!

After what has come out this week about Okafor and his multiple "off the court issues", I now have to think that, as adp has said repeatedly, there is/was certainly some merit to having a few vets on the team to help with a very young roster, on the court some but at this stage I think mostly off the court, and especially with a Sixers roster that is the youngest in the history of the sport!!
I can now see the value of having an "old head" or two on the roster "early on" in the plan, to answer any questions and guide the young guys thru the grind of their first few NBA seasons, and all the problems and issues that might come with it. They didnt necessarily have to be players who were in the regular rotation, but I think they did and still do need to be "good people" who are carefully selected by management------veteran players who the young guys know they can go to with any questions, problems or concerns and get a good informed answer from somebody who's been thru it all. It seems like Okafor could really use somebody like that and it sounds like he would welcome it, based on one or two of the few comments he's made about these issues-----and others like Embiid and Noel could also certainly benefit from it, as well as the other kids on the roster.
In hindsight, that probably should have been part of the "original plan", realizing how young this team was going to be moving forward, so right now for me that part of it certainly appears to be a mistake by Hinkie, although I still fully believe that the basic premise of the "Hinkie Plan" was then and still now is the correct one!!
I think they can and probably should find someone to bring in right now to help out these kids for the rest of this year------I think its important. Then after this next draft, they can then begin adding a few "quality free agents" who still have lots of game left to fill any roster holes as they officially start and continue the ongoing process of "winning more games" each and every year, which hopefully will someday result in an NBA championship-----that is my hope!

Noah Locke tonight

1 vs 2 battle between McDonogh and St Francis Academy.
Villanova recruit Noah Locke and teammates Bruce Moore (Bucknell) and underrated junior pg Damian Chong-Qui vs Soph big Koran Moore, stud frosh Gerald Mungo and dynamic backcourt of Daquan Bracey (LA Tech) and Kurk Lee jr (undecided) Great matchup. Hope the game lives up to it.

Link To Watch St. John's vs. Fordham Game For Free

Not sure if anybody cares, but the quality is very good, which pisses me off having to pay money to watch Villanova Football games in satisfactory quality at best on the internet.

Also, I thought all Big East games were televised? Surprised this one didn't get picked up by even a local TV station in NY.

Anyway, if anybody cares, here ya go......

Small ball vs. dead hawk

With Ochefu in foul trouble early, we saw a lot of Reynolds in the first half.
Second half, a couple times, when Ochefu got a breather, we saw small ball, with both Bridge, Jenkins, Hart, and a couple guards. JW still tinkering
I don't think this lineup was on the floor last week.
Bridges needs to play. Will we see more of this?
I like Reynolds, and believe he can contribute, but this is another 5 minutes of a different look, with another opportunity for Bridges to see the floor.
The only down side is who protects the basket if we press 3/4 court?
I like it, and think we'll see more of it, although in small doses.

Kris jenkins

I will take all comers. Feel free to post all the disparaging comments in this thread, book mark it and we'll discuss year end. I'm astounded at the shots thrown at this kid. Having been around thsee parts for over ten years I'm not surprised. Each team has a whipping boy. I watch a different game than 90% in regards to jenkins. His floor game is very important to what we do. He's a human mismatch. He still hasn't shot well. I don't get the comments thrown his way. Look at his numbers across the board and look at the faith Jay continues to put in him. Attack the message, not the messenger. Go.

Young Cats Lead

Playing a rivalry game in a band box, the young Cats played with a high basketball IQ and tremendous poise. IQ and valuing possessions is a strength that we haven't experienced enough of over the years. Brunson is as advertised and Bridges is giving this team a ton and playing nearly starter minutes. Booth is an assassin with a complete night and career high from Jenkins. Hart just keeps raising his game as the best player on the floor. We have quality seniors and they will have the say in how far we go. Nice stretch by the Chief in the second half but needs to ring the bell from the start - good to see he recovered and played more at ease down the stretch. Love Arch and all he brings but need to see the end of the 2 for 1 end of half/game possession approach. Its a good idea if getting good shots but he forces a bad 3 at the 40 second mark. Trying to bury it but that end of first half heave was reminiscent of the March night in Pittsburgh that led to the opponent run and Wildcat shock. Get a good shot or just play out the possession and we enter end of games situations in a stronger position.

Safe travels to the Islands and take down the Sooners!!
