Don't Have a 4k UHD TV?

You might want to wait. VESA has just finalized standards for 8K displays with a resolution of 7680x4320. That compares to current 4k TVs which have a resolution of 3480x2160. The 8k displays should hit the retail market by mid 2016. Apple will use the new standard in its iMacs starting early next year. 4k content is currently available through Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video and it's amazing!

Tommy Hanson Remembered

Tommy-Hanson-Angels.jpg

29 yrs old. Catostrophic organ failure. Aka kidneys and/or liver likely gave out from consistent binge drinking or drug abuse. But I'm just spitballing tho, no idea what really killed him but organs dont normally collapse on you in your 20's for no reason if you dont have cancer or a friggin aneurysm. Apparently the guy had a mental breakdown a few yrs back when his younger brother died - perhaps he turned to heavy booze to ease the pain. Sucks for the parents of these guys.

Langston Galloway

As a long suffering Knick fan I am pleasantly surprised at what a good player Langston Galloway is. I do not recall his impact at St. Joes, but to the Philly guys, was he this good in college?, has he drastically improved? did he play well against Nova?, he is starting to become a big time NBA guard, he handles, he shoots, he drives and makes good decisions, He has become a fan favorite at the Garden

way OT: Brian Wilson show

The Mrs and I are seriously considering going to AC to see Brian Wilson (of Beach Boys obviously) in Oct. and forking out some cash for meet and greet and soundcheck etc.. Has anyone seen Brian on this tour (he was in Jersey around the 4th of July)? Does he sound decent at his age? He is absolutely one of the greatest songwriters we have ever had and I love Pet sounds (which is hands down a top 5 album ever). Any feedback would be great. I am not sure it's worth it b/c I haven't heard how his shows are at this point

OT: espn article Kobe instead of Kittles

Espn has an article with a hypothetical theory of what if the Nets drafted Kobe instead of Kittles. Basically saying it would changed the franchises fortune forever, a franchise who had been dreadful would have had their fortunes changed forever by this one simple move. I disagree totally. First off Kobe would not have played one minute in Nj even if drafted. He woulda did the same thing he did to Charlotte, force them into a position of trading him. We see how greatly Charlotte has benefited from that move! Yikes. So let's just say for argument sake, he gets drafted and plays for the Nets there is no way he carries that franchise to superstardom under his rookie contract. I don't buy it. He wasn't the player he became in his rookie or even second year. Kittles was a very productive pro who helped that team make the playoffs and Finals, which by the way I don't care what team Kobe played for he wasn't beating Michael and the bulls in the late 90s! It just pisses me off that they write this dumb article and it paints Kittles as the Sam Bowie of the new generation when that couldn't be further from the truth! Another reason why I can't stand espn and their bullshit.

today's game

Some thoughts on today's game:
  1. The main thing that struck me is how much different we are from last year. It shouldn't have been a surprise, but it really jumped out at me how much length and athleticism we've lost without Hilliard, JVP, and Ennis. (And I don't think those were areas in which we could stand to give up very much.) Of course, Brunson and the maturation of others may make up for it.
  2. Arch and Brunson probably will play effectively with each other on the offensive end, but I have concerns about defense when they're out there together. They kind of reminded me of Reynolds and Fisher playing together. I especially did not like the look with the two of them at the top of a 2-3 zone. I simply don't believe they can cover enough ground around the arc with their lack of length.
  3. For that reason among others, I don't understand why we keep getting indications that Jay is so interested in playing zone this year. The shot clock is shorter, but our team looks even less equipped to do it right.
  4. I continue to think we need Bridges to come on as our 7th man. The top 6 will be very good. I think Reynolds is our best option as a backup 5, but I don't see him and Ochefu playing together very much. That leaves Bridges and DiVincenzo, and while DiVincenzo may be doing what he does better than Bridges is doing what he does, I think we are more in need what Bridges can offer - chiefly, length. Bridges did a few nice things today (3s and playing the point of the 1-2-2 press), but there's no doubt he's a work in progress. I was glad Jay had him out there a fair amount.
  5. We started out in a man-to-man press - not terribly aggressive, mostly designed to bleed the shot clock, I thought. Only when Bridges came in did we move to our familiar 1-2-2 look. Hart played the point of that press some later on, but I'm not sure Jay is comfortable with the 1-2-2 look with our starters out there.
  6. We may turn out to be as good as we were last year (although I doubt we will be), but in any event, we're going to have to get the job done differently. Last year looked pretty similar to the year before, just switching out Bell for Booth, but there will be a much bigger adjustment now. We all know what this team should be able to do well - score. We're going to need to do that very, very well and then also learn how to make some adjustments on the other end and on the boards.
For what it's worth, I don't base much of that on how today's game went. Pace was not much of a test. Just looking at the team on the floor and how the rotation plays out helped crystallize some thoughts.
