DirtyD / ADP - Thoughts on NY AG's Cease and Desist to FanDuel / Draft Kings?

As a non-player of daily fantasy sports (and non-sports gambler in general), what are your thoughts on Schneiderman's latest move? Personally, I think he is a just another politician focused on things that will get the most traffic, but wonder if this is the beginning of the end for these sites until new legislation has been brought up.

Also, lots of articles in the NYT about off-shore gaming more broadly. Fun reads.

Never Look Back

I have had a tumultuous past 4-5 years in my life.

The biggest takeaways from my experiences:
  • Negativity (in any form) is a soul-sapping waste of energy
  • Focusing on the past is the evil bastard stepchild of negativity

However, I get that people want to make sense of something that is hard to swallow. So let's dispense with this. It is pretty simple.
  • 85% of 1 seeds make the Sweet 16
  • 70% of 2 seeds make the Sweet 16
Hence, it could hardly be argued that these were successful NCAA tournament appearances.

What does it mean for the entire seasons? Love someone's analogy of a college class -- we took an A or an A+ into our last 2 final exams and bombed them. Since the final exam is the biggest part of any grade, we get a C+ or a B-for the past 2 courses.

All that being said, WHO CARES NOW? It is what it is and cannot be changed.

Never look back -- only forward -- and keep it positive.

New season, great program, stellar coach, scintillating vibe........a lot to look forward to.

(Note: If you are incapable of looking forward and have a pathological need to rehash the past, at least go back to 2009)

Don't Have a 4k UHD TV?

You might want to wait. VESA has just finalized standards for 8K displays with a resolution of 7680x4320. That compares to current 4k TVs which have a resolution of 3480x2160. The 8k displays should hit the retail market by mid 2016. Apple will use the new standard in its iMacs starting early next year. 4k content is currently available through Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video and it's amazing!

Tommy Hanson Remembered

Tommy-Hanson-Angels.jpg

29 yrs old. Catostrophic organ failure. Aka kidneys and/or liver likely gave out from consistent binge drinking or drug abuse. But I'm just spitballing tho, no idea what really killed him but organs dont normally collapse on you in your 20's for no reason if you dont have cancer or a friggin aneurysm. Apparently the guy had a mental breakdown a few yrs back when his younger brother died - perhaps he turned to heavy booze to ease the pain. Sucks for the parents of these guys.

Langston Galloway

As a long suffering Knick fan I am pleasantly surprised at what a good player Langston Galloway is. I do not recall his impact at St. Joes, but to the Philly guys, was he this good in college?, has he drastically improved? did he play well against Nova?, he is starting to become a big time NBA guard, he handles, he shoots, he drives and makes good decisions, He has become a fan favorite at the Garden

way OT: Brian Wilson show

The Mrs and I are seriously considering going to AC to see Brian Wilson (of Beach Boys obviously) in Oct. and forking out some cash for meet and greet and soundcheck etc.. Has anyone seen Brian on this tour (he was in Jersey around the 4th of July)? Does he sound decent at his age? He is absolutely one of the greatest songwriters we have ever had and I love Pet sounds (which is hands down a top 5 album ever). Any feedback would be great. I am not sure it's worth it b/c I haven't heard how his shows are at this point

OT: espn article Kobe instead of Kittles

Espn has an article with a hypothetical theory of what if the Nets drafted Kobe instead of Kittles. Basically saying it would changed the franchises fortune forever, a franchise who had been dreadful would have had their fortunes changed forever by this one simple move. I disagree totally. First off Kobe would not have played one minute in Nj even if drafted. He woulda did the same thing he did to Charlotte, force them into a position of trading him. We see how greatly Charlotte has benefited from that move! Yikes. So let's just say for argument sake, he gets drafted and plays for the Nets there is no way he carries that franchise to superstardom under his rookie contract. I don't buy it. He wasn't the player he became in his rookie or even second year. Kittles was a very productive pro who helped that team make the playoffs and Finals, which by the way I don't care what team Kobe played for he wasn't beating Michael and the bulls in the late 90s! It just pisses me off that they write this dumb article and it paints Kittles as the Sam Bowie of the new generation when that couldn't be further from the truth! Another reason why I can't stand espn and their bullshit.
