237 Days ...

... since our last game. Off seasons are always long but this one just seemed to last forever. Probably because of how the last game went. But now we get to start again!

22-9 ... 28-3 ... overrated ... underrated ... sweet 16 or bust ... ennis is a big loss, no he stinks ... we aren't athletic enough, tall enough, strong enough ... the big east is a mid major ... its all just talk and I just don't care anymore.

The Cats are back on the court and that makes today a great day! This team is going to very fun to watch.

Can't wait for this new journey. Enjoy the hell out of it.

Lets Go Nova! Beat FDU!

Bilas with high praise for Ochefu

Sorry, another insider article. This one with Bilas' full season preview. Quite a long piece and a good read if you have insider. Here is his take on Ochefu, as part of "Six things you should know about the 2015-16 season":

5. Villanova's Daniel Ochefu will make you love basketball
If you can take your eyes off of Jay Wright's suits and pocket squares, which put Rece Davis' to shame, keep your eyes on Daniel Ochefu. Simply put, he may very well be the hardest worker in college basketball. His rebound percentage was fifth in the country. When the Wildcats when to a four-guard lineup, he was left to do all of the dirty work. It's what made Villanova a top-5 team. His defensive rating was eighth in the nation and he's led the Big East in defensive rating in each of the last two seasons. He shot 64.4 percent from the field to lead the conference. He was second in the conference in PER and led the Big East in win shares per 40 minutes. Ochefu is a hard-hat-wearing, lunch-pail-carrying "I-gotta-go-to-work" beast.

If only Jay could find a decent big every once in a while ;)

Fox Sports 2 HD

Probably can't make it to the Pavilion tomorrow. I have Verizon FIOS which does not carry FS2 in HD (only SD). Any suggestions? Is there an app to get it in HD? I have Chromecast so can stream it to my TV. Or is FS2 SD OK? Don't recall any games on it last year.

Also - I have 2 tix if anyone is interested.

Villanova lost a super star........

In case you did not get the email from Fr. Peter......below is the text. Steve was a fantastic person in his role for Villanova and will truly be missed. His impact on the student experience has helped to create wonderful opportunities for our students. My heart goes out to his kids as they lost their mom a few years back to an unexpected illness.

Prayers go out to the Merritt Clan as they work through this difficult time of grief.

Dear Alumni:

It is with great sadness that I inform the Villanova community of the passing of a true Villanovan, Steve Merritt. As many of you know, Steve served as Dean of Enrollment Management since 1998. He passed away this morning at the age of 59, after being on medical leave for a heart condition.

I would like to take a moment to reflect on Steve's many contributions to our University. Under his leadership as Dean, financial assistance and student scholarship opportunities were expanded significantly, and the services provided through the Office of the Registrar were dramatically upgraded and improved. During Steve's tenure, Villanova also saw an increase in the talent and diversity of the undergraduate student community, which has helped to raise the national profile of the University. His legacy and impact on Villanova can be seen in the accomplishments of students from the Class of 1994, his first cohort as Director of Admission, through the incoming Class of 2020.

Steve's positive influence on the University extended well beyond the area of Enrollment Management. He worked with Student Life and University Advancement to establish the Parents' Program at Villanova; served as Special Assistant for University Communication to Father Dobbin and me, and developed a roadmap for creating the Office of University Communication; and was an integral member of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee.

Steve received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Villanova and returned in 1990 as Director of Undergraduate Admission before assuming the role of Dean of Enrollment Management, a position he held for 17 years. As Dean of Enrollment Management, Steve oversaw the Offices of University Admission, Financial Assistance, University Outreach and the Registrar.

As an alumnus, employee and Villanova parent, Steve was committed to the University and its mission and willingly gave of his time and expertise. Please remember Steve and his son, Keith, and his daughter, Erin, in your thoughts and prayers, and give thanks for all that Steve has done for Villanova and our community.
