MLB Playoffs

What? No thread on this because the CoPhillies aren't in it this year? We aren't allowed to discuss?

Observations so far:

The Pirates throwing at Arrieta was the most entertaining thing I've seen in a while.
Houston has the goods to go very far, and are going to be twice as good next year.
Toronto will come out of the AL.

Colonel Jim

We''re visiting Kristie and her two sons in Austin Texas. Went to high school where Kristie and ladies were selling pink shirts and FB gear to kids. Then we went to Costco when Kristie's husband Colonel Jim phones from Kostco. He visits Afghan. and Syria too. Long conversation. Has some tricky patients getting ready for Germany. Mentions staying at our place last summer while son, Harper, was visiting Ivy League schools and we're visiting Billy. His son, Jamison, in West Point, got a Rugby concussion last week, while Jim's ninth grader, Greer, is playing both ways, center and nose guard since their nose guard got hurt. From then on it's Kristie and Jim. God bless Jim and our troops wherever they are.

Daniel Murphy & Yopenis

Good Lord, someone is gonna pay outta their nose for Murphy.

Any idea who the Mets 3 and 4 hitters will be next year?

Someone will probably give Yopenis 140M and watch him sludge to a .235 batting average.

Murphy is way, way too Jayson Werth for me. Outlier career year in a contract year. I wouldnt trust giving that guy the money he's gonna get. He almost assuredly will underachieve the contract.

Bad Beats on Sports Center

I don't typically watch sportscenter, but I wanted to see highlights of the NLCS and Eagles-Giants this morning. I got to see both and then my kids wanted to watch the new Star Wars trailer so I left it on.

After the trailer, they had this segment called bad beats, which lasted at least 3 minutes, where they took 3 blow out (2 of which were obscure) games where something happened at the end to move the winner ATS or over/under. Is ESPN that desperate for content they need a segment for the Tulsa ECU game and how Tulsa scored a last minute TD for the W ATS? They lost by 13...

I could see my 11 year old looking at the tv thinking WTF...

6th high school football player dies this year

It's October 18th. I don't know if like many other topics, we simply hear about these stories in the INET age. However, it seems as if these stories are becoming all too frequent. 6 high school kids and the season isn't halfway over. This is terrible. Not sure what the answer is but maybe we need to rethink tackle football for kids of a certain age. Hopefully someone with a medical/science background can shed some light on this topic (if the NFL doesn't pay them off to cover the findings). I don't know but it's happening at the high school level and seems to be every week we get one of these stories. Sad stuff.

Phil Booth

I've been playing back in my mind what I saw on Sat and I can't stress enough how good Booth is. It appears as if Jay is gong to bring him off the bench and start Brunson. But what I could see happening is Booth taking on a bigger role as the year goes on and if Brunson should struggle (don't expect him to) maybe even moving him into the starting 5. Kind of like what Hart became for us last year. A quasi-6th man but he's really a starter who plays 22-25 mins.

To me, Booth is THAT GOOD. Excellent player, very hard to cover.

Donte - Grayson -

I have it in my head that Donte could shock with upside surprise and be a Grayson Allenesque player for Nova.

I know Grayson was a McDDAA - and Donte was not - But it seems that Donte was wildly overlooked due to his HS team.

They look like very similar players/games - Any thoughts???
