Most disappointing aspect of the game itself...

We have seen Ochefu miss dunks and layups, we have seen the whole team not finish at the rim against big physical teams, we have seen ice cold shooting, we have had issues with dribble penetration, we have given up too many offensive rebounds....

What was different/unique was that NC State played with more energy from start to finish...we didn't seem to have that desire, extra burst, or "find a way attitude" that made this team special...we didn't quit but that "balls out style and attitude" was AWOL....

The first Georgetown game was that way (actually much worse) for about 22 minutes but we at least had that 10 minute run where we got attacking and flying around...even the lethargic Seton Hall disaster had that 8 minute early second half start where we seized the lead (disrupted by the Hart kick)....but yesterday there was NEVER anytime where we seemed in control or more energized than the opponent......very surprising and disappointing.

Random Thoughts

When someone dies unexpectedly the last thing you do is be rational, think about new plans, complain about what went wrong. You just grieve and live and move forward.

On a much less serious scale with no lives on the line and belved CBB team lost a game all expected them to win. This is a speed bump, a pimple, a pothole in the scheme of the players lives and the fans lives. Sad yes. Disappointing yes. But on the strategic scale inconsequential. Villanova is a family. Win or lose Villanova is home. Thanks coaches and players for a great year. Let's move past a bad loss to the future.

GO CATS!

We had a look with 10 seconds left

Don't over think this loss. We played awful and our kids never gave up. I have yet to look at the numbers but we have a clean look for the win our worst night. We were good enough to go deep. We played poorly but we battled. Those are great kids. I'm completely heartbroken. However, seeing those kids return from the game, they are crushed. The better team lost. It happens. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. The game was a bad dream. The 3 at the 1st half buzzer. Seriously....it was a slow motion horror movie. Be like Elsa and let it go.

The send offs were amazing. The team was amazing. The community that was the 2014-2015 team was awesome. We'll all feel this one for a long time. Cast no stones. We played poorly and lost to an inferior team. It happens and it sucks. That monkey on our back sucks. However, those kids played hard all year. Great Nova team. Like all of you, i'm devastated.

Next Year's Non-Conference Schedule

Does it benefit us to go balls to the wall and try to play anyone and everyone, lose some games and settle for the fact we might be a mid-tier seed in the tourney even if we win the Big East where we have the chance to be more battle tested? Or do we stick with what we've done the past couple years and beat up on lower teams and hope we can break the high seed second round curse?

I am about to get horsewhipped for this but......

What are the chances of us getting a big man transfer? I am being serious. Delaney and Reynolds are projects as far as I am concerned who can give us about 5 to 10 minutes a game until proven otherwise. Ochefu is pretty much a one man show as far as our front court. I am sorry, but Jenkins and JVP are just not big men as far as I'm concerned, not even close, and Bridges, yes he is long, but he is thin and will get pushed around.

This means that when Ochefu graduates we will have to be relying on a freshman, Spellman, to step up and be the guy from the get go. That is a lot to ask a freshman and it STILL DOESN'T SOLVE OUR FRONT COURT DEPTH ISSUES.

This IS an issue. This is a REAL problem for us. If we had another big guy....BIG GUY, not 6'5.5" listed at 6'7" yesterday who grabbed us a few extra boards, we win that game.

I know, I know, here comes the "well, I think Jay knows the game better than you...." and the "big guys just don't fall into your lap...." posts. But, I know enough about basketball, to KNOW, if we ever really want to get over the hump in the tournament, WE NEED SIXE.

On to next year

Emotions are running high today, but as Dick Vitale said in an interview last night, Nova would not lose a "best of seven" series to NC State, but the one and done is what makes this tournament so special.

Hindsight is always 20-20, but being a #1 seed is not always the best case scenario. Yes, it did allow some of our alums to stick their chests out in pride, but the reality is that we would not have had a 2 loss team in the ACC or a few other leagues. We have a nice league that is in its growing stages, and it is incumbent for the schools to recruit better. The lure of a "basketball is king" conference can be very appealing, but we need to get better players in the league, and of course, better performances in March.

We did not shoot well, but we did not get as many open looks either. It seemed that we were too concerned with attacking the rim as opposed to penetrating and dishing. That said, if we make just half of the chippies that we missed, we probably get a 10 point win. Two things that I also thought were very key to our loss were first, Josh sitting down with early foul trouble-IMHO, he is the straw that stirs the drink on our team, and having him out for a good portion of the first half hurt us greatly. Secondly, the way the first half ended. At the worse, we should have gone in one point down.

The comment was made that next year more of the offense will go through DO-in hindsight, maybe more should have been done to do that this year. We need to develop better balance in our offense, even if it means sacrificing a win or two to do so.

Only one team in the tourney ends their season with a win-too bad ours' ended so early. It is on to next year……

ESPN

Thankfully, we SHOULD have a really good regular season next year.

Hopefully another high seed.

Please no "ESPN hates us" threads if/when the pundits predict an early outing 51 weeks from now. Hopefully next year will be there year we end the draught.

This finally made me laugh today...

I've never started two threads in one day, forgive me, but this board has been very therapuetic today, thank you all. Good to vent and discuss events of yesterday. Here's what finally made me laugh a few minutes ago. Through the emotions of that horrible game last night + at least 2 bottles of wine (one during, possibly 1.5 after) I totally forgot about firing in my lock bet of the century: 'Nova -8 in 2H, until I logged in a few minutes ago and looked at my account. One more kick in the a$$, but seeing that all I could do was laugh at myself. Can't wait until the fall. Thanks everyone, Go Cats!

Middling Dark side team paralizes most of VU Jedi Knights

Darth Vader of ACC dark side assigned one of his secondary teams to take out VU. Except for seniors Flash
Gordon Hillard , Iron Man Pinkston and rookie side kick Booth the rest of the team was in a trance. Flash Hillard was blazing away until the clock struck midnight. He went 8-18 but the way things were going he should have taken 5-10 more shots including the one for the win with 20 secs. left that Ennis missed. Iron man Pinkston was last seen surrounded by giant Strom Troopers as he had to keep charging into the breech to collect fouls. JVP got no help from his wing man the Chef. Team out rebounded 45-32, Ouch! In limited time Booth hit 3 of 4 3 pointers but had trouble defending bigger, tougher guards. As noted the rest of the team was under a big man induced zombie like state.

Need a Sci-Fi explaination for the destruction of this season. Although the answer as always is that size matters. Cats need to recruit more bigs because the 4 guard offense always ends badly. Its clear a number of bigger teams than NC St. would have taken the Cats to the woodshed.

UVA also fell early. But the Uber Dark Side team, Kentucky awaits.

I would like to see us use the BE...

...regular season as strictly practice for the NCAA next year and slot Darryl Reynolds at the 4 as a starter and just let him play and let's see what he's got...I don't care if we pile up losses because of it as long as we get into the NCAA's...long term I think the kid can will show he can play and will fill our biggest weakness...give me Danny at the 5, Reynolds at the 4 and everyone else at the guards/SF positions...imho his development is the key for this team next year once we get into the tourney...I think he can become the equivalent of Reynolds at Providence...you can pile on now....

Relax folks!

It's extremely hard to win in the NCAA Tournament. This is why I was super excited that this team won the regular season and Big East Tournament. I am very disappointed with the game tonight but we are a very good program that has not done well in the tournament lately. This was a great season with an awful ending but we will be back again next season. Just so very tough to see Hilliard go but we have studs like Hart and Booth to take over as the offensive leaders. I look forward to next season because that is all we have but we will be very good again. Brunson will be fun to watch as well.
