Emotions are running high today, but as Dick Vitale said in an interview last night, Nova would not lose a "best of seven" series to NC State, but the one and done is what makes this tournament so special.
Hindsight is always 20-20, but being a #1 seed is not always the best case scenario. Yes, it did allow some of our alums to stick their chests out in pride, but the reality is that we would not have had a 2 loss team in the ACC or a few other leagues. We have a nice league that is in its growing stages, and it is incumbent for the schools to recruit better. The lure of a "basketball is king" conference can be very appealing, but we need to get better players in the league, and of course, better performances in March.
We did not shoot well, but we did not get as many open looks either. It seemed that we were too concerned with attacking the rim as opposed to penetrating and dishing. That said, if we make just half of the chippies that we missed, we probably get a 10 point win. Two things that I also thought were very key to our loss were first, Josh sitting down with early foul trouble-IMHO, he is the straw that stirs the drink on our team, and having him out for a good portion of the first half hurt us greatly. Secondly, the way the first half ended. At the worse, we should have gone in one point down.
The comment was made that next year more of the offense will go through DO-in hindsight, maybe more should have been done to do that this year. We need to develop better balance in our offense, even if it means sacrificing a win or two to do so.
Only one team in the tourney ends their season with a win-too bad ours' ended so early. It is on to next year
