Two interesting NCAA Championship Facts

1. The last Catholic school to win it all was Villanova 30 years ago.

2. Since Villanova won 30 years ago, Duke has won it all 5 times. If you exclude those 5 Duke wins, of the remaining 25 years, only 1 private school (Cuse) has won it all.

Moral of the story....it's really hard to win if you're not a private school named Duke, since private schools are usually smaller than state schools. It's even harder if you are a private Catholic school, since they tend to be smaller still.

Time to beat the odds....again!

Sunday Flights?

I've been spending my time securing tickets, finding slots for the tickets and selling a couple as I can only go on Sunday for the final if we make it Has anyone seen any flights leaving sometime early on Sunday and coming back Tuesday even to Austin or another surrounding city. I looked for a bit, but am trying to travel with someone who is out of the country so I really can't book until tonight he gets get back.

Go Cats...

Ochefu's Evolution

It certainly tells a lot about this team that it's possible to overlook the value Ochefu brings, simply because the other 7 guys in the rotation are all peaking and evolving at the same time. HOWEVER...I still think it can be said that without Ochefu we don't sniff this game on Saturday.

Throughout the BE season, we wondered what was up with the chef. Everyone knew his value, but he was either not getting a lot of minutes, or oscillating up and down in terms of impact. He was never playing bad, but it always felt like he could be doing more. Then he got hurt the first time, and a second time...and a third time. As we approached the BET, his health was front and center. He hardly impacted those 3 games, and didn't start any of them. What would we get from him in the NCAA?

Then the games started, and the best of all things Daniel showed up. He looked healthy, he logged big minutes, he scored, defended, rebounded, passed like a guard. Then against Miami, he looked to tweak his ankle again and it looked bad. But a quick trip to the sideline and tightening of the laces seemed to do the trick and he was back.

Going into each of the last 3 NCAA games the mantra from this board and the media was the same as the last 3 years. How would Ochefu handle non BE bigs? Everyone thought Iowa, Miami and especially Kansas would all have an advantage. And Ochefu proved them all wrong. Ochefu has been the best big man in nearly every single game he's played all year, including the last 3 games, and especially Kansas. He will again be the best against OK.

He is not only the anchor of our defense, the key to our rebounding strategy, and the reliable go-to option on offense...but he is a willing leader.

Thinking back to last March and all the ups and downs of his career, it's not hard to say that nobody is peaking better or more impressively this year than Daniel.

Time Out: Thank You

This tournament run - the final four - the potential national championship - this board has been fantastic. I love that 'nova inspires the same passion in so many other people - all of your passion fans the flames of my fanhood. Finding this board and becoming more of a "regular" over the last year has enhanced my experience as a fan.

Thank you to all of the posters on here for sharing their passion, their insights, opinions and thoughts. While there are a number of different view points or opinions on this board I respect all of you for your thoughts and opinions and wanted to take a minute to say thank you. Go 'Nova!

Transfers: 5th Year or Otherwise

NCAA free agency seems to be running rampant this year.

Ohio State's formerly #1 recruiting class is basically on the market. A number of big time programs are facing transfers.

I know it's premature but anyone watching these - anyone see anyone out there who might be a good fit for 'nova? If it's not a 5th year that person will have to sit - might be a nice way to find a quality player for 2 years.

BYU and Cincy to Big 12 -fake story, sorry

saw a tweet that this will be announced after the final 4. There was also an article in my local paper (va beach) that ODU would love to move up from conference USA to the AAC once Cincy moves on. Not sure if this will stop the moves for a long time or a little bit? But at least it's not a team moving from another power 5 conference. Those moves tend to have major ripple effects.

DVR alerts for those in Philly area

Tonight(4/1) - 7:30 on WPVI(ABC) channel 6 there is a 30 minute "special" on Villanova's march to the Final Four. Probably interviews, story features, etc. They did a TV commercial with the crying piccolo girl from last year that I'm sure will air then as well.

Saturday:
"March to the 'Net" pregame show at 5:30 on CSN
"March to the 'Net" postgame show after the game on Comcast Network.
I'm sure CBS Sports channel will have nonstop coverage of press conferences, talking heads, until probably 1AM.

Sunday:
Villanova press conference at 2PM on CSN. (should we advance)
